and I understand why I keep being referred to as the guy.
I don’t watch much television – it’s pretty much limited to The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad and Billy and Mandy for me. Last night, when my husband and I got home, my daughter and her bf were watching House. I sat down with them and we chatted for a bit, and I asked what she was watching. When she told me, I laughed and said, “people keep comparing me to the main character on that show.” She laughed and said, “yeah, you should watch it, I can totally see it.”
So I watched a little of the show. It was a lame show (IMO – obviously, not the kind of thing I’m into) but I will admit the main character is…uhmm…uncomfortably like me.
Just my mundane pointless thought for the night I felt like sharing.
LOL, apparently. I was thinking “bitchy, with a superiority complex and anti-social” but I like your diagnosis better I can play several instruments…none well, no focus.
I did find myself frustrated listening to them name off all these different possible diagnoses that I have never heard of presenting the symptoms they claimed…but IANAD, so I just got up and stopped watching, which helped me not be annoyed.
Heh, Litoris, I remember our exchange in the wall-pissing thread.
I had stopped watching House because of the reasons you list. I loved the bastard himself, but the show was too silly with its impossible diseases and diagnoses. Then I recently gave up and started watching again because I had to get my Hugh Laurie fix. I’m willing to give all the nonsense a pass just to see him snark at people the way I wish I could snark myself.
Give it another chance. I disliked the first two episodes I watched( last year, don’t watch much TV, either), thought House was too much of a jerk. Now, I really love, it, because of the complexity and good writing, great characters and actors.
House seems like a jerk, but there’s a lot of depth and smarts there that makes everyone put up with it. I’m still getting the hang of all the backstories, but like it enough to be looking it up,(thanks to Skald pointing me to Wiki entries, duh, in the current Cafe Society thread) which I’ve never done for any TV show. The best part about House is that he wants the truth, and, in a medical drama, that becomes imperative, Life and Death, the lack of social niceties can be set aside. He’s a complex man, though, and Hugh Laurie plays it so well.
Oh, I liked the character well enough – kinda interesting – a male version of me…the show just isn’t my cuppa tea. I like cartoons, and silly stuff. I dislike anything with reality – so basically nothing with live actors right now really interests me. Oh, I take it back, I also watch a lot of Discovery channel, but, ya know, that’s educational…and violent, but mostly violent, YAY VIOLENCE…oh, wait, where was I?
House looks like it probably does do well with character development, but I am too anal retentive, and shows like that are too easily predictable, meh.
Oh, and I do limp sometimes, but no facial hair, thankfully!
Oh, heh, House probably wouldn’t watch House, either.
The only other shows I watch sporadically are the Fox cartoons, too, so I get where you’re coming from. But, still, this show has caught my attention over many other stabs at liking a TV drama.
