So I had my mid year review at L.L. Bean last week and it wasn't great.

Basically, my review said that I’m a really nice guy, who is always pleasant and willing to switch tasks with no complaints, and I always come to work on time.

That’s the good news.

The bad news?

My work habits, to put it kindly, suck camel ass.

Of course, Bean didn’t couch it in quite those terms.

After many weeks of training, Ben was still unable to reach the performance goals of the position of multi-packer.

So, I’m kind of like the retarded kid that is really sweet and really nice and always shows up, but all he’s good for is going and getting the grocery carts.

Gee, that makes me feel good.

Sigh

Overall I was given a review grade of needs improvement.

And I have a rehire status of C which when I asked my team leader what it meant was told, "We’d be glad to have you back working for Bean, but it wouldn’t be in the multi-pack department."

Or in the single pack department.

At least with my review I didn’t have to sign a piece of paper saying that “Ben is holding up his team’s packing process, thereby lowering his team’s morale.

Yes, I actually had to sign a piece of paper acknowledging that.

During my short stay in the single pack department.

At least I’m still employed.

But did you ask the Girl out? You are keeping us in suspense, man.

Enough is enough!

Spill it!

How convenient. For “them.” What kind of raise didn’t you get?

Do you think the evaluation was fair?

StG

Why are you glad to be employed at a job where you suck and are apparently disaffected enough that you don’t want to stop sucking? It really sounds like this is not the career for you. Why don’t you leave and do something you can enjoy and not suck at? There are millions of jobs out there.

If I got an evaluation like that and agreed with it (as you seem to) I’d be out the door that day and reviewing what the hell I wanted to do with my life.

I agree with astro except that you shouldn’t quit until you’ve already got another job. It’s a lot easier to get a job when you’re working than when you’re employed.

Well, I sucked at that particular job. (multi-packing.)

Actually, that’s 1/3 true. I had a few personal issues which hurt my performance, and those issues are just now starting to turn around.

However, in my current job at Bean I ROCK.

And I’m glad that Bean is the kind of company where if you don’t have a good job fit, they will work with you and shift you around rather then just showing you the door.

As for what I want to do with my life, that’s why I’m applying to radiology programs up and down the Northeast.

Yeah, there may be millions of jobs out there, but there aren’t that many in my area, at least ones that haven’t been filled for the holidays.

I’m not disaffected, it’s just been a really tough year.

REALLY tough.

StGermain,

Yeah, I think it was a fair review, the only thing I didn’t like was the language that was used.
