So....I have to ask...anyone leaving the country?

Polls are better posted in IMHO (where you will next find this thread).

What’s more likely? Total mesmerisation. Or a failure of perception on my part. I just think quoting iconic statesmen doesn’t put him in the same league as them. He spouts the inspiring words of Dr. King and people ooh and ahh. Shouting “Yes we can!” is just paraphrasing “I have a dream!”. Sheesh.

We’re tired. We were up past our bedtime celebrating last night, and then we woke up at 6am and couldn’t get back to sleep because we wanted to see more election news. It was kind of like being a kid on Christmas morning. And we’re so happy, it’s holding off the cranky that we’d normally get with so little sleep. At least that’s why I probably seem a little mesmerized today.

Don’t look into Obama’s eyes, jimpatro! Don’t look into his eyes!!!

Of course not. The sort of temper tantrum that involves stomping your feet and screaming about leaving the country is a liberal conceit. I for one welcome our new socialist overlords.

I think that dickishness transcends party lines.

I don’t think Bernie Sanders counts as an overlord, and he’s the only socialist currently in the Senate.

I can’t leave now. I used up my one free political move when I came here to escape the Harper administration.

(I’m kidding of course…sorta)

We’d have an easier time of it. Canada is congenial to liberals, nearby, AFAIK a pretty decent place to live, and you could presumably get by there (except in Quebec) without learning any language other than English. I suspect if Canada were English-speaking, a decent place to live, and where it is now, only its politics were more conservative than ours, it would be the conservatives who would say this sort of thing.

I spent two years living in a former Eastern Bloc nation. I’m an American and I didn’t actually live there DURING communism, but yeah, I got a real good idea of what it’s like to live in a communist nation from a thousand stories and anecdotes.

Nothing I have heard from Obama even remotely resembles communism. I am totally baffled by this assertion.

BTW, a lot of Bulgarians would go back to communism in a second if it were feasible. To hear them tell it, communism beats the hell out of democracy any day.

Does the FBI know you plan on attacking Mayor Bloomberg?

I most likely am leaving the country in the spring, bound for either one or two years in New Zealand.

Granted, it has absolutely nothing to do with the results of the election and most everything to do with my failure to grow up and grow out of the urge to Go Somewhere Else, but I probably will be leaving the country.

I’m just spitballin’ here, understand, but I’d say that “failure of perception” is a lot more likely than mass hypnosis. Occam’s Razor, and all that.

China. They don’t need no steekin’ regulation in China. Must be a libertarian paradise.

Just don’t brush your teeth.

Russia?

No you don’t. And neither does anyone else who calls Obama a socialist, communist, or Marxist.

Having the government control the means of production is radically different from income redistribution. Egalitarianism of the socialist variety (where there are *no *wealth inequalities) is radically different from having a progressive taxation system.

Just for grins, have you seen this?

Russia, most of the Sub Saharan states,Syria,Saudi Arabia,Iran would all feel quite homey to a disgruntledright wing conservative.

Conservatives are so concerned about the concept of someone undeserving possibly getting some of their money, I honestly believe that, given the choice, many would actually prefer to make 250k taxed at 30% over making 400k taxed at 39%. Because they just can’t stand the idea that some people might take advantage of the system and get away with free money.

Not leaving the country, but I am leaving Alaska. I was planning to do so next spring anyway, but was having some regrets/second thoughts up until this election, when the people here decided that a convicted felon and a guy who is under investigation by the FBI are perfectly suited to sit in WDC and represent our state. I’m so far down the highway mentally that this place is already becoming a distant memory…
