So I just watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog

I got the DVD cheap and had heard nothing but good things about it.

I really enjoyed it and watched both the regular commentary and “Commentary - The Musical” right after watching it normally. The featurettes about the making of were interesting as well.

Anyway, I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it

Awesome. Too short.

Hands down the best commentary track that has ever been or will be.

I caught it online back when it was on Hulu, so I didn’t get the commentary. But the show was good, although I didn’t think it would be at first. When I first saw the video blog at the beginning, I thought it was really going to be a blog, with a guy just talking the whole time. As much as I like NPH, that would have been boring.

Also, it threw me because he doesn’t start out singing. Heck, it doesn’t even get an opening song.

Love it. Watched it when it came out, own the DVD. lissener is correct: “Commentary - The Musical” is the best there ever was. It even surpasses the in-character commentary to This Is Spinal Tap.

I showed it to my friend a few days ago. At first, I could tell she thought it was kind of lame, but by the end, it had won her over.

But I don’t have the commentary. Sadface.

I don’t discuss my process.

Ten dollar solo!*
I gave Cecil my dues
Which he can’t refuse
For a post that’s all mine.

*give or take

We watched it when it first came out, then rented the disk just to watch the musical commentary. Except for some reason, our DVD player wouldn’t play the commentary. :frowning:

That sucks! the commentary is sooooo worth it! Could you play the DVD on your computer?

Dr. Horrible is made of awesome! And I haven’t even seen the commentary yet. "It’s a brand new day, the sun is high, and all the birds are singing that you’re gonna die!"

Some of the commentary is available is on youtube. Here’s “I’m Better Than Neil,” wherein Nathan Fillion sings a sexy little funk number about how much better he is than NPH.

And here’s the lyrics for the whole commentary track, including this bit from “I’m Better Than Neil.”

*So he was on broadway
While I was on the soaps
Who’s got the high score
On “Ninja Ropes”?
Who’s got a bullet-proof
Car like the pope’s?

Look at Neil mackin’
So sad he’s so lackin’

He makes seven figures
And gets Emmy nods
I make seven layer
Bean dip of the gods
I’m also in Halo 3
What are the odds?*

I just saw it for the first time too…and I didn’t like it.

Unfortunately for Joss Whedon…this is the second thing I have seen of his (I have seen half of Firefly) and I am not overly impressed with either of them.

If I can get my hands on some Buffy I might try that, but for as much as I figured I’d like Joss…I have been very underwhelmed thus far.

Better Than Neil is definitely my favorite commentary track, but you didn’t quote the best part:

I was just pitching this to a friend of mine who’d never heard of it. I’m sad I only own the iTunes version, so no commentary.

Oh well. “Laundry day, see you there, underthings, tumbling . . .” I will be singing these songs for the next week now!

I loved Maurissa’s little pouty line at the end of her Commentary song “Nobody’s Asian in the movies”…

NPH; what does your dad do anyway?
MT; Oh he’s a nerdy, funny, scientist
NPH; I thought your dad was a transpo. guy?
MT; <scoffs> Sheah, like an Asian can do that <pouty> I’m going in the corner and play my violin and…math!

Just a head’s up, even most dedicated Buffy fans don’t much like the first season. It doesn’t really start to measure up until later in the second season.

OK, this is funny.

I’m a huge Whedon nerd, love superheroes, think Nathan Fillion is amazing, and like Neil Patrick Harris okay, but Dr. Horrible was terribly dull, in my opinion. I really wanted to like it, but it never engaged me on any level.

For those that like it, though, you might like this: Dr Horrible in 8 Bit.

Seriously? I’m really sorry to hear that, Aesiron. I thought it was hilarious - this and Firefly made me a Joss Whedon fan.

And as for Neil Patrick Harris, weeel, I gotta admit to a little man-crush. Guy can act, guy can sing, guy can dance - I’m beginning to think he actually was performing surgery on Doogie Howser.

I listened to some of the songs from the commentary and I think my favorite is “Ninja Ropes”, just for the sheer weirdness value. The topic is exactly the sort of nonsense you expect to hear about on a DVD commentary, and to have a song about it instead of a few guys rambling on about how cool this game is and how much time they wasted playing it is hilarious.

I’m kind of thinking I want to try it. And there’s directions in the song on how to find it, even!

Actually, this should read “unfortunately for” you.
