So I now know a biological great-great grandmother

I’ve know Edie, her mother Effie and her daughter Tina for over 30 years. I used to baby-sit Tina when she was five years old, and remember her having a son whenshe wa 17. but eventually lost touch with the family.

Edie came by the store where I work yesterday and I asked about her family. She told me Tina’s son Walter had two children. My jaw just fell! Tina’s a grandmother? And your mother’s still alive? You’re a great? And your mother is a two times Great-Great Grandmother?" Edie just stood there nodding her head.

Damn, I’m old.

Do your know any families with five living biological members?

My great-grandmother Ann
My grandfather’s sister Noreen
My grandfather’s niece Loren
His niece’s daughter, Linda
Linda’s daughter Jenn

This was some years ago, and now Jenn is about to give birth. However the first two generations are both gone. If Jenn had gotten pregnant at age 18, like her mother and grandmother, as Noreen was still around they could have had 5 generations again.

There’s a photo somewhere of this in my family: my nephew, my sister, my mother, her father, and his mother. She was in her 90’s at the time, and this was back in early 1968.

My cousin married a man and his mother, grandmother, and great grandmother were all at the wedding. My cousin had a baby very quickly and if her husband’s great grandmother was still alive (I don’t know if she was) she would have become a GGGrandmother.

My sister is a great grand mother, our father is still alive and kicking making him a great great grandfather.

My family used to have five generations.

My maternal grandmother died when she was not quite 108, and at the time had three g-g-grandchildren.

Most of my G-G-Gps didn’t speak English. I didn’t know any G-Gps except my father’s father’s stepmother, who was somewhat younger but old by the time I got there. So 3 generations is the max, I guess we were ahead of the times by having kids in our 30s.

we have photos from the 70’s of my brother and his daughter with my father, grandfather, and grandpa’s mother. Another brother has a child a few months younger so he might have one as well. Both brothers were a grandfather while my grandparents were still around so I think there is one for that also. My MiL passed two months ago otherwise in another few weeks my wife’s family would have gotten in on it.
