So, I start my old job tomorrow

After some fruitless job hunting and about six weeks of working for a really bad temp service, last week I got hired for the extra board at a casino I worked at years ago. The money isn’t great, but it’s a really comfortable environment to work in, so I was happy to have the old job back. The boss told me he’d try to schedule me for at least a day or two a week but he couldn’t make me any promises. I was cool with that because I figured I’d also pick up the occasional day when someone called in sic or needed an extra day off, plus I still could maybe pick up an odd shift here and there with the temp service if there I couldn’t get any shifts at the casino.

So, the other day, the day shift boss called me and said he had a schedule for me- two days next weekend. Then earlier tonight, the swing shift boss called me up and said he needed me to work tomorrow night. That’s three days, when the boss said he couldn’t even guarantee me one a week!

I figure, with the delays I’ve been having to deal with getting my license for massage therapy, I need to make a living somehow, and if I have to work at something that isn’t massage, I might as well do something fun.

So, I’m dealing craps again!!! Woohoo!!!

Congratulations! Lots of shifts at a job you enjoy=great.

Yeah, really.

I don’t know what’s up with the ringer on my phone, I guess one of the cats walked on it and broke it, but I’ve been not hearing the phone ring and then finding messages on the machine.

This morning, the day shift boss called and said he had another shift for me this week.

I’m actually looking forward to going to work. After a year at Wal-Mart, then two months doing temp work for two different services, basically doing crap work for crap pay, this is quite a pleasant sensation.

It would be nice if the tips were better, but I guess that’s the trade-off. A lot of the better-tipping jobs are in corporate-owned houses that have a lot of stupid rules and tense working environments. This place is fairly laid-back.

Oh, and a boxman who worked there at the same time I did who quit a couple of years ago is back, too. I guess he just started again during the summer. So, that’ll be fun. I just wish the old table games shift boss we had back then was still there. He had a masters degree in History- why he wasn’t teaching at a university, I was never bold enough to ask him, but we had some great conversations.
