It was good, really - about as good as a first day at a new job can be. I didn’t get lost (although I did have to ask a student this morning for directions to the library, and someone else on the way back to my car which floor I needed to exit the elevator to get to my car).
I think I’m going to like it, particularly once I get through the orientation aspect and really get started. I suppose I really get to call myself a reference librarian now!
/English accent ON/ Splendid stuff, old girl! Jolly good show. /English accent OFF/
When I joined my current school, I underestimated the number of buildings. Soon I was lost on day 1.
Our staff orientation course had told us to ask the nearest pupil. So, inwardly nervous, I did so. “Computer Centre? Certainly, Sir. Just follow me.”
May all your customers be as polite!
Yep, I left Knoxville. I’m now in Youngstown, OH. That whole finishing grad school thing and needing a job kind of forced the decision on me - plus, I like the people I’m working with (at least so far) and it seems like a good place to start the new career.
Aesiron, I’m not sure yet how it feels to be out of Knoxville - the apartment feels empty, that’s certain, since I didn’t bring the sofa with me (I didn’t want Dad to even try to carry it and I wasn’t sure whether it would fit through the doors of the new building). Eventually, though, I’ll meet people and manage to have a social life again!
