MiO is a portable drink flavoring to add to water. I decided to give it a try, to see what it was like. I bought a bottle of the “strawberry-watermelon” flavor. Apparently they only have fruit fusion flavors, plus tea flavors. Okay.
I note that they use artificial sweeteners. This makes sense, as they are marketing to weight loss folks who don’t want sodas because of sugar, etc.
I filled a glass with water, and put in a squirt. Actually, first I squirted the counter, because my aim was off. I had to wipe that up. Oops. Then I squirted the water. A little bit had a hint of flavor, but I want stronger. Add more. I begin to notice that the overwhelming sense of the flavor is not the strawberry or the watermelon (though there was an undercurrent). It was not even the sweet (though it did have that). No, the overwhelming flavor was a god-awful synthetic flavor that I can’t put into words except to state that it tasted like blech. I sampled it a couple times to be sure it wasn’t just unfamiliarity, or if I could tolerate it. It had a hint of cheap bubblegum flavoring, with an overdose of yuk.
Yeah, so I poured it out and threw the bottle away. There goes $4. But it wasn’t a complete waste as I now know to avoid it.
I use the mango tea flavor, but I use a tiny, tiny amount in my sparkling water. At that concentration it’s the perfect hint of flavor. The few times I’ve used more than that, it’s been…not pleasant. Not horrendous, but…blech, like you said.
I love the stuff. Then again, I’ve always loved Crystal Lite and I’ve had no aversion to the artifical sweetner they use. I enjoy the strawberry/watermelon and berry pomegranite but my absolute favorite will always be the fruit punch.
I really like how you can portion it out to single servings as opposed to having to whip up a jug of the stuff (and have your family drink it before you can get a single drop!) Whenever I want to exercise or take some water on a go, just a quick squirt from the bottle and I’m all set!
I think there was one original flavor I disliked…I believe it was mango. It tasted like farts to me. They have two caffinated versions now. I tried the green punch one but that one was bleh- I can’t tell if I like the taste or hate it. Starting off it tastes almost like medicine but ending, it’s not so bad.
It’s worth the price to me, considering I can get 24 servings out of a bottle for $4, less than the cost for a 12-pack of pop. Now if they’d just come out with some lemonade flavors, I’d be all set!
