To get an old filling replaced on a very back molar. Turns out the filling was below gumline, so they had to jamb this band into my gum after spending forever to drill the old filling out. My understanding is that the band forms a mold while they apply the new filling (the white kind).
Did I say yet that it hurt?
Imagine a metal band being forced below the gumline of your very back tooth. Imagine too that for some reason the novacain had no impact on the pain receptors in that gum (why!?).
Then imagine that whole process took Like half an hour! In fact, the whole procedure took 2 hours. For a filling!
The worst part, aside from the coming nightmares of having whicked elves tearing open my gums, is that somehow during the ordeal my tongue was cut on the underside near the tip. Man does it hurt!
Was good to see my dentist, though. Nice guy. But next time I think I’d rather lose the tooth.
it is fortunate that soft tissue injuries in the mouth heal much quicker than in other areas of the body. sometimes a day or two and no more pain or discomfort. your body knows how important your mouth is and takes care of it fast.
Did you tell him how much it hurt? He should have given you more novocaine.
I had one of those rubber shields stretched over my mouth. I figured it would take to long to take it off, get the shot, then put another back on.
It was really one of those stupid things where it hurt, but I figured it’d be over shortly. Boy was I wrong.
Been there, done that. In fact, tooth #31 would NEVER get numb, no matter how many shots the dentist would put into that area. It was a real problem tooth, and every time I had to have it worked on, especially the old fill’n’drill, was agonizing. I had to have another tooth pulled, and I told the oral surgeon to take out #31 while I was asleep, that I hated it and didn’t want to mess with it any more. Tooth #32 is the lower right wisdom tooth, for those who want to play along at home.
IOW, I have felt your pain. Here, have a nice cuppa tea, that always seems to soothe the mouth.
