So I'm waiting for an Early Decision letter...

There’s about 1100 students, 259 students in my class at the start of the year.

Found out today that General Boy Wonder, got into Princeton! Got his acceptance letter Saturday. I’m sure he’s sick of people congratulating him, but I think that’s terribly cool. Not too many Ivy Leaguers from my school…

HerMajestyLorna, have you heard anything yet?

And still, I have not finished any of my applications. I need to check on my recommendations tomorrow, actually. Must remember…so much to do before the semester ends.

hi lorna, I’m just finishing up my application to 'ford. I just got rejected from Swarthmore, so now I actually need to finish off all my apps. wish me luck

I am at that “o-holy-frigging-shit” stage of mental anguish. I just found out that I applied early-decision to WPI! I applied on-line, and I guess it was just a little slip-up :smack: … And I’ve been accepted.

What if MIT accepts me, too… This is an awful shock, and I don’t know how to deal with it. I mean, I guess the honorable thing to do, if accepted to both, is to go to WPI. I mean, MIT is just a reach school… WPI’s the one my heart was staked on… but MIT’s MIT…

Yegads.

Here’s to hoping I’m not MIT material!

Nice silver lining, though. WPI has promised to meet my “full demonstrated financial need”. That’s sweet of them. I hope that what they think I need is the same as what my parents think I need…

Yay! I just found out I was accepted to Georgetown. I had already been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh (main campus) on a full tuition scholarship.

Here’s hoping G-Town comes up with the need aid (no merit offered)!

Good luck on not being accepted DarkMika (that sounded nice of me).

Congratulations to everyone, I suppose then.

Sorry about the mixup, DarkMika. (I guess? And congratulations?) Those online apps can be tricky…I managed to accidently submit an incomplete application to one college back in September. It was definitely on my list of “places-I-wouldn’t-attend-unless-I-absolutely-had-to”, but it was most alarming when I logged back in to work on it, only to see that it had already been submitted! And they couldn’t pull it from the system, either.

Well, not so much the honorable thing as the legal thing. If you decline WPI in favor of MIT, and the colleges find out, they’ll both withdraw their acceptances. If you applied early decision to both and you get accepted to both…then you’re in a bit of a bind…

But congrats. And good luck, Lorna.

Oh, I remember just a year ago, I was in this situation, too. And now I’m typing this from college two days from my first final. God, how the time flies. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mine came in a pretty big envelope, but I didn’t have to open it. My mom opened mine too- and then called me at school to let me know.   (Now, if I hadn’t gotten in I would have thrown a hissy fit at her opening my mail but I was just so deliriously happy at being accepted.)

If you have a hot bath towel (for you mind), try stripping in front of me. If that doesn’t work, then it hasn’t worked and we must try again.

This method has two advantages.

One is that it pleases me no end.

Two is that even if it doesn’t work (I’ll give it 95 odds-on it will), then you haven’t spent time worrying about it - your life has been used to amuse others, and ye shall go to heaven.

Well, luckily you can’t apply early decision to MIT. It’s not an option.

And, hopefully, I won’t have to make that decision… I mean, if I am accepted to MIT, and I decline, there’s always the "what-if"s… whereas, if I’m not accepted, I still get the financial aid from WPI for applying early decision… even if it was an accident. And I’m guilt-free.

Alrighty, everyone.

I was staying after school today for the school newspaper, and I called my parents.

It arrived.

I asked them to open it.

AND I GOT IN!!!

I burst into tears as soon as my dad read out “congratulations!”

I’m walking on air. The envelope was small, but thick.

Good luck David, and all others out there.

Congratulations!

Oooh, Congrats, HerMajestyLorna!
May your financial aid exceed your financial need!

Thanks you guys!

Luckily, financial aid will not be a problem.

I’m so happy!

Oh, that’s just great news! Good for you! I hope you love it and your roommates were as fantastic as mine were.

Woo-hoo!

Bravo! That’s fantastic! Congratulations!

Hope you have fun…

Ok, I got my letter from MIT. I’ve been deferred. So, I’m not good enough to be immediately accepted, but I’m not bad enough to be immediately ruled out. They’ll tell me the final decision in March.

I guess it’s WPI for me! I’m too impatient to wait for MIT, even if it weren’t for the early decision thing. I’ll just wait for WPI’s financial aid info and housing packet to get here, then I’ll confirm my acceptance. WPI, here I come! I’ve also got write MIT and tell them to remove my application from consideration.

I’m psyched! <mentally jumps and clicks her heels in mid-air> Woo-hoo!

And think of my name in the freshman directory (do they still have those?) DarkMika of Possom Trot, Kentucky. Yep. I’ve got to practice saying “y’all”.

Congratulations!

My daughter is applying this year. She got an acceptance from her second choice back in November (Siena College), so the pressure was off.

Then we got a phone call last Monday from her first choice school (American University). She wasn’t home, and my wife and I went nutty trying to figure out what it meant (my guess was that is was good news – people hate to give out bad news in person or on the phone). We called back, and she’s in.

Hey, welcome to WPI! I’ve been a student there for the last couple of years (ignore my “should I stay in college thread”) … if it makes you feel any better about MIT, I’ve known at least 30 students here who have gone to MIT, hated it and transfered here instead and found a much better situation at WPI. The general consensus is go back to MIT for grad school.

Now…should I start up the “ask the WPI student” thread?

Hi, I’ve been lurking at the boards for quite a while, now… just wanted to pop in to say that I was just accepted to Swarthmore, one of Haverford’s sister schools. So, congratulations, HerMajestyLorna- maybe I’ll meet you sometime!

-Jackie, who has a friend who’s applying to Brynmawr (which has possibly the ugliest name in the world), Swarthmore’s other sister school… <crosses fingers>

Well, here’s a few questions:

  1. What’s the price of maple sugar candy at WPI? Do they sell it at the bookstore? I can’t get it down here, and it’s too expensive online.

  2. Does the bookstore sell decals and pennants? They aren’t at www.wpibooks.com .

  3. Is Opal at WPI?

Thanks.
