I am utterly disgusted by the actions of the Iraqis, but exterminating them is hardly a response befitting a democracy that supposedly is promoting freedom and popular sovereignty. Yes, the atrocity in Fallujah is reprehensible, but attributing that as some sort of blood libel on every Iraqi is indecent, IMO.
“Let us make examples of them” is the cry of the dictator and the thug, not a free people who wish to export their values to a benighted nation that suffers from ignorance, poverty, and inchoate rage.

America is BIG, real BIG, in terms of size, power and arrogance. We decided we wanted to march in to Iraq and make it a country JUST. LIKE. OURS. Wouldn’t that be nice? And maybe we could make everyone get along and in a dream world, they’d all be big christian capitalists!
Iraq is little in terms of size, MONEY, RESOURCES and OPTIONS. They had no choice but to ‘welcome’ the American troops killing civilians and toppling cities in their quest to get Saddam and of course…the WMD.
So Saddam is gone now, and guess what? IRAQ HAS NO NEED FOR US ANYMORE. THEY DON’T WANT US ANYMORE and that’s been made abundantly clear. Do we leave? Hell no. We take control of their newspapers and radio stations, censoring out anti-american sentiment, and Iraqis have started fighting back.
MORE AMericans are dying MORE Iraqis are dying. MORE HUMAN BEINGS ARE DYING. We need to leave Iraq. THAT is what I’m rooting for, and I suspect sailor feels the same.

That was my response to someone who asserted America was just taking care of its interests and my post was a reasoning of what logic conclusions one has to draw if it is considered fine for a country to invade another country solely on the basis that it is in its interests to do so. And yes, I still believe that if the only justification America can produce for attacking Iraq is that it is in its own interest to do so then i believe the Iraqis have the right, even the duty, to resist. Which is not saying I want any dead Americans. It is the government of the USA who is willing to pay the price in human lives, American and Irai, to protect their interests.
