So. Is Jesus still, uh. up there?

Like in Heaven? Body and all?
I say if you believe the bible, then yes he is. Christian teachings, to me, make a point of saying so.
Peace,
mangeorge

No. He came back within the lifetime of his disciples, just like he said he would, and we are currently living in either heaven or Hell(take your pick).

That’s one position. However, according to the Apostle’s Creed of several churches, including Catholicism:

The idea of his spirit and body being in Heaven is implied by the fact that his tomb was empty. Or maybe it’s explicity spelled out somewhere, I can’t remember offhand.

Oops. I forgot to say that no, I don’t think so.
No man gets to do that until Judgement Day. But I don’t believe that either.
I’ll take hell. Yeah, make this one hell.

According to the Bible, the body that was resurrected, which was somewhat different from the one that died, in that He could move through walls and such, and move from place to place instantaneously, was assumed into heaven sometime before Pentecost. So, yeah, he’s still there, and will be until he comes back again.

Up where?
Did the aliens get him?
I thought he was buried in a tomb, like many other wise leaders.
That would mean he is down there, right?

He was buried in a tomb. The tomb was later found empty.
No, aliens didn’t get him; over 500 people saw him alive after his death. (1 Corinthians 15:5-8)

Actually, one person(identity uncertain) made the claim that 500 people saw him alive after his death. (1 Corinthians 15:5-8)

The gospels seem to give slightly different interpretations of this. Mark, in its obsession with a very real and very soon day or reckoning, certainly seems to emphasize the idea that Jesus went away, and is coming back in a big way. But the later Gospels seem to imply that he’s more omnipresent: still with people.

These clauses are not contradictory. It is perfectly possible that, even if you accept the Biblical statement of 500 witnesses, that his body was abducted by aliens, reanimated, and sent back to freak people out.

Personally, I favor the “Jesus was a vampire” conspiracy theory. Drink of me, and live forever.

I thought when he came back he had no body a’tall; thus the ‘Holy Ghost’ appellation.

Would have been difficult for him to be eating with the apostles and allowing his wounds to be touched, if he didn’t have a body.
The Holy Ghost is the third person of the Trinity, Jesus is the second.

I’ll admit that “up there” is a cop-out, and that many religious teachings today shy away from the location thing. But the bible does say flat-out that Jesus the man, in the flesh, is out there some where. We were taught that he was (is) a man in all ways. So he has to breath, eat, stay warm, poop and piss, etc. His wounds have surely healed by now.
So is there this really old hippy dude hanging out at Nations, munching a cheeseburger, and waiting for The Day?

The way I understand it, is, He was bodily resurrected (Easter!)
and is in Heaven in His resurrected body, the kind we will have after we get there.
But I’m sure He can travel.

No. Because the whole thing is a put-on. People like to talk about how many people saw him rise from the dead, but reappearing only to one’s friends & only for 40 days isn’t much of a resurrection. He didn’t come back to earthly life, which leads me to believe he didn’t come back to life at all.

I think you’re right, foolsguinea. The writers found themselves faced with a real problem. They could let Jesus rot (where’s the bones, man?) like anyone else, just as the bible said he should, or they could pull some magic and resurrect him. Now this created yet another chink, so they threatened any skepticism with charges of heresy, where heresy = disbelief.
There’s no place for Jesus to go, 'cept right here.

He’s still dead. He always has been. He wasn’t the son of God, IMO, just a guy with some interesting ideas. Let him become compost.

That’s a pretty interesting approach. Can you elaborate on it a bit please?

He appeared to people who hadn’t met him, as well.

No, Gadfly, surely not “just a guy”. Arguably the most historically significant “guy” who ever lived, . And a good guy, according to my sources.
But not a god, I agree.

so when He actualyl comes back, I’m supposing you guys will say, gee vanilla, you were right after all.
?
