I don’t have HBO, so I’m hoping that someone who does can enlighten me. I read an article back when the show was about to premiere, and it was praised as “brilliant and unique.” From the article it seemed that the “unique” aspect was because it takes place in a funeral home. That’s not enough to make it unique, in 1990-91 there was an awful comedy on Fox called “Good Grief.” Howie Mandel was someone who co-ran a funeral home; he wanted to “put the fun back into funeral.” Funeral homes have been done, so is it unique in other ways then? Is it good enough (coupled wih “sex and the city”) to consider re-subscribing to HBO for? Or just watching if it comes out on DVD? The praises on http://www.imdb.com make it sound intriguing…
Yes, it’s unique and definitely worth watching.
However, after tonight’s episode (one of the best so far, IMHO), they showed a trailer for next week’s episode, which is the penultimate episode before the two hour season finale in two weeks.
And, next week is also the season finale of Sex and the City.
Sex and the City, however, has its first two seasons on DVD, and they’re worth getting. Considering that the Sopranos is also on DVD, I would think that HBO is pretty good about releasing seasonal boxed sets of their shows. Good on them. Sex and the City season 3 will probably be out next spring, and then the first season of Six Feet Under will follow, I hope.
I love Six Feet Under. I like it more than- dare I say- The Sopranos, and I like the Sopranos a bunch!
6 F U is the only show (regular show) that can make me cry. It’s just very well done. And is extremely funny, too.
When this season is over, a lot of people are going to be looking forward to the next one. I’ll be somewhere near the head of the pack.
I don’t know if it is unique. Basically it is just a soap opera with the family living/working in a funeral home. But it is well written and entertaining. HBO really does make some pretty good television series. I like Oz, the Sopranos, and I’m looking forward to the Band of Brothers or whatever it is called. I only hope that the shows don’t start to wear thin about a few seasons. I find myself growing a bit bored with Oz and the Sopranos at times.

Maybe not. One of the folks writing about this show pointed out that the show is more than retread plots in an unusual setting.
Living in a funeral home, surrounded by death, has formed the characters, and we can’t really say that about other shows. That’s one of the things that sets it apart, I think.
None of these characters has turned out like I thought when I first started watching. And they’re not just surprising for the sake of surprise. I like this show a lot, and I’m going to miss it when they go away for the season.
What’s really funny is that it’s no more than just plain good drama, but we’ve seen so little good drama lately that 6FU seems extra special.
Anything else on worth watching? Someone recommended Babylon 5 to me – anything to that?
