So is threadshitting now acceptable?

What? You can’t fap to posts any more? Mother of god! I thought this was America!

Sheesh if anybody is a member of the offenderandi here, it’s the Iron John wannabees. I don’t see anybody advocating that the lame linked thread be prohibited or even closed. Heck, I don’t see anybody complaining about the misleading thread title or the murky description of a SFW but salacious link. But to suggest that the boys are, shall we say, over-reacting to the billboard… that’s an outrage!

Second verse, same as the first.

Wasn’t there another ATMB thread based on a Diora (perceived) ultrafeminist post?

I don’t think this is from that thread but I always will remember this classic

No mod note on this and her comment in the OP’s thread seems pretty tame in comparison.

It’s foul slander because without elf-ears, I can actually only get up to a semi-chub

I don’t want to get into a debate about any particular thread or post. I’m just talking about general principles.

Let’s say I start a thread and somebody else comes along and posts something like “What a ridiculous boring topic. Nobody cares.”

To me, the way I’d want to handle it would be able to post back something like, “Don’t threadshit. If you don’t care about the topic you don’t have to post in this thread.”

But now there seems to be the idea that we’re supposed to respond by reporting the post to a mod.

Guys, it’s not threadshitting when a girl does it. Jeesh! Am I the only one who got the memo?

I feel similarly to this. But in fact, as I understand it, the mods have been saying for a long time that if we see threadshitting, we’re supposed to report it. It’s in the rules. I don’t know how long it’s been a rule, but it’s certainly not new. The ostensible reason for the rule is to keep threads on-topic, so they won’t devolve into flame wars. But I think the mods are way to quick to intervene and nip it in the bud when that starts happening.

I agree with Little Nemo here. I think the mods should only step in at the first sign of it getting out of hand. One problem is, as long as it doesn’t seem very serious, you can report away if it makes you feel any better, but the mods will just ignore it. (I suspect I’m not allowed to tell you how I know that.)

Girls don’t threadshit. Girls only go into threads to powder their noses.

This is a pretty shitty argument.

Me: “I get a good laugh at all the fucking retards who do X” in a thread about doing X.
People who do X: “That’s insulting!”
Me: “I said I get a good laugh at all the fucking retards who do X. Are you a fucking retard? No? Then I wasn’t saying I get a good laugh at you.”

Much better to call someone a fucking retard and, dare I say, man up to it, than to pretend you weren’t calling someone a fucking retard in the first place. Own it and take a mod note. You’ll be like the Nelson Mandela of the SDMB.

Oh great. We have to endure another whiny thread in ATMB about accusations of being threadshitting feminazis and dick-wagging misoginysts? “Ohh look, me got outrage over people talking about da butts”, “nuh uh, we’d all hit dat. She’s hawt you man hater.”

Why even bother with threads like this? They bore me and I think participating in them is silly. I almost pity these posters who care about the rules and have nothing better to do than appeal to the mods every time some mod note is disagreeable to them.

Nothing to see here, move along to another thread. It’s much ado about nothing.

I’m still not sure how Ellen’s mod note was “sexist” nor do I understand why so many people seem to feel that Dios somehow was given preferential treatment because she’s a woman.

She was a bit amused and perhaps a little contemptuous of some men getting excited over a fairly generic picture of a woman’s butt.

Hell, if a number of white women had opened a thread about the movie Gone With athe Wind(a huge favorite for white women of a certain age) I don’t think people would have gotten all upset at my ridiculing them.

Imagine that it was a thread where women were taking about some guy they found cute and a guy butted in to talk about how the women were acting like" bitches in heat." Trying to demonize male, or female, sexuality itself is sexist. Stating that male sexuality (if not closeted) is offensive, and that women should be free to mock them for daring to voice admiration for the woman, that’s sexist.

Because she pretty much explicitly said that she’s authorizing women to troll/threadshit/be a Jerk to men.

In general you have a point but in this specific case you are grossly misrepresenting what is going on. This board has recently undergone a pretty major paradigm shift in it’s attitude towards what can and can’t be said and what can and can’t be joked about regarding women. I feel it’s too much but apparently I’m in the minority so fine - let’s move on. But it’s not enough for some posters and they continue the crusade past what (in my personal opinion) makes logical sense. Worse, given the new attitudes around here the mods seem to protect them - even if they stretch the rules (threadshitting in this instance).

The board is a poorer place for it.

Very well put.

Diosa wasn’t stealing keyboards. If the fact that she is less than impressed with the level of commentary is enough to scare someone off of posting, well, that sounds like a personal issue. Either her opinion is worth enough to warrant a moment of introspection or it’s not worth thinking about and therefore presents no barrier to continued leering.

Damn those bitches in heat and, oh wait, no, damn those leeering men who have the audacity to say that a woman is attractive. And in public, too. Don’t they know that a woman has to sign off on their sexuality for it to be okay?

Why is it ok for you to comment on someone’s physicality but not ok for someone to comment on your comment?

Why is it okay for a woman to express her sexuality but not for men to try to shame her for having her own thoughts and feelings? Gee no idea. What a mystery.

Nah let’s just shame those sluts. I’m sure Ellen would be down with that plan. I mean who isn’t weary of sluts. Eh? Eh?

There needs to be a term for this. Meta-shitting? Threadsharting?
