I always wanted to write a book, but I never really thought I’d be able to do it, but hot damn, there it is.
When I finally heard about the November National Novel Writing Month (or whatever order it is in), I thought that sounded like great fun. The problem was I found about it right around November 25th. Being the patient person that I am, I decided next November was simply too far away, so I convinced three of my friends to write a book with me over Christmas break using the November rules. Even after taking the week between Christmas and New Year’s off, I finished it. 50,223 words, and it’s finished. Here is the general premise. The book begins telling of a poor farmhand who tires of his work and runs away from the farm. Then the books jumps to the other hero, a prince who has just been deposed and exiled. Both men leave the country, and eventually meet one another. They both happen to be excellent swordsmen. They join forces and head back to their mother country to attempt to take the throne.
If you’re interested, it is available on Lulu.com, but I’m not going to link to it because I have been told before that that is bad. I supposed you’ll have to e-mail me or something like that. I just mainly wanted to come in here and celebrate and gloat over my achievement. Yay me!
That’s great. I’m debating whether to put my NaNoWriMo novel on Lulu to take advantage of their offer to send you a hard copy of the book. I think the deadline is looming, unfortunately, and I still have to format it and everything…ergh.
Thank you all. Unfortunately, since mine wasn’t an official NaNoWriMo novel, I couldn’t get mine for free. But I ordered two copies anyway for $21, which is a very good bargin in my limited expierience. That includes shipping, by the way.
While there is some (not much, but some) sex, it isn’t written from a lusty standpoint. I attempted it to be more of a fairytale romance. Maybe I sould have been better off writing about the lusty wenches, though, after I found out it is to write romance, at least for me. Then again, this is something that both my mom will more than likely read, so I think I took the safer route.
Congratulations!
I printed mine out and it’s on the table next to me, waiting to be bound. It is so cool to be able to point to a book and say “I wrote that!”
Okay, Regallag, the link should be waiting for you in your inbox!
[sub]Woo hoo! Two people want to read my book! I honestly didn’t think anybody else would be interested in what the story was about, except for like family and they’re more than likely just being nice.[/sub]
As some of you may remember from this thread, I finished writing a book at the beginning of January. I didn’t want to bump the old thread as it is probably past its expiration date. I did want to let everybody know, however, that I am now holding this book in my hands (figuratively; right now it’s laying beside the computer to allow me to type). I have to say this is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever gone through. I can’t really explain it, but it’s an enormous rush of pride to see the cover with my name on it, open it up to find that it is still my name as the author, read through it and think “I wrote those words!”
I suppose I’ll quite rambling now, but I’m just really happy. Everything else in my life is going well also, but I wanted to brag about this a little.
It’s published on Lulu. I’m not sure if the mods would appreciate me directly linking to it, but I will tell you that my name and thus storefront there is jimsox5. Unless a mod came along and said it’s okay to link, though, I’ll leave it at that.
I’ve sent an e-mail to Cajun Man, as I believe he was the one who explained the rules about linking to personal storefronts to me before. Here’s to hoping.
