Watching him say goodbye to the fans at the 'stick today, I recall warmly the dedication and class he’s brought to the NFL over the course of the last decade and change.
Jerry, wherever you go, whatever you do, I wish you happiness and say thanks for so many fond memories.
At least you got to watch him. I’m stuck up here where Fox doesn’t think anybody cares about the 49er’s, so I listen to the games on my computer! I really wish Jerry could finish up his career in SF–he deserves it ad the fans deseve it, and the new young lions coming up behind him could benefit from another year with his help. I’ve got mixed feelings about salary caps, and sports salaries in general, but I hate that economics gets in the way of loyalty.
Kallessa, I so agree. Next year, it will be strange seeing Jerry in another team’s uniform. It happened with Montana and Lott as well, and it was strange. I’ve little doubt though that when Rice hangs up his jersey, he’ll retire as a 49er. I’m sorry you couldn’t see the game. Jerry seemed to have some of the step back that he’s lost over the last couple of years, and he seemed genuinely moved looking out at the crowd of cheering fans after the game was over.
I agree about the salary cap. It’s brought parity to the league, but it’s also stripped some of the excitement out of it. Of course, that could just be sour grapes on my part as I watch the niners rebuild now while remembering back to the glory days that Bill Walsh helped bring to the team. I have been pleasantly surprised though by the quality of the niners play this year as contrasted with last season.
After enduring yet another Jet choke-like-a-dog performance today (offense, that is), I’ll take Jerry Rice. Sadly, he’d probably go the same route as Lott and Atwater - 3 and out.
I may be a Jet fan, but I’ve always enjoyed watching the Niners play, Rice in particular. It certainly will be strange to see Fifi in another uniform.
Jerry Rice is the man…Thanks for allof the years bro. He changed football into a primetime sport, and broke records and stuff. For that, us the fans should be forever greatful.
Where ever you are next year, good luck and farewell.!
