So mods can reply to a closed topic?

And post an essentially unchallengeable position?

They can, they’ve always been able to. It’s not uncommon for them to do it by accident, from what I’ve heard them say. But I also recall a mod from many many years ago that would got the last word in by replying to a locked thread a little too often for it to have been a coincidence.

Yes. I did it once by mistake. I was composing my post when the thread was closed, and the system doesn’t warn a mod in any way that the thread has been closed.

I apologized to the mod who closed it, and offered to delete my post, but he said to go ahead and leave it there.

I’ve also done it on purpose when a thread is off the rails. Close it first, and write the mod note saying why after.

I’ve never intentionally added content to a thread after knowing it was closed. But… That’s a really easy mistake for a mod to make.

Yeah, it’s easy to do by accident. It’s that way on every message board platform I’m familiar with.

As to an unchallengeable position, I believe that the mods are waiting on input from the OP to reopen the thread. And someone could always open a better written thread.

Oh, my mistake.

Fair enough.

Just wanna point out @engineer_comp_geek is being served up an easy lob to smash when he closes this.

And then posts a dozen replies, getting in a heated argument with himself, calling himself names, and finally banning himself from the thread…

I don’t know how the mods avoid the temptation to post non sequitur controversial last words in every thread they close.

“This thread about the political situation in Uzbekistan is off the rails, so I’m closing it. There will be no further discussion. Chili is a soup.”

And less than a minute later there’s an ATMB thread asking if a reply against the comment that chili is a soup should be in ATMB because it was part of a mod instruction and directed at a comment a mod made while wearing their mod hat, CS because it’s about food or the pit because fuck you.
