You can read the article here. I’m not mentioned in it as I had to be at my other job when the reporter was there. If I weren’t so damned tired, I’d be shrieking with joy.
Congratulations!
From Pete Puma to this.
Tuckerfan, that is very cool. What kind of work are you doing on the restoration?
Very cool to see something historical come back to life. Well done!
I stumbled across the article in the newspaper, Tuckerfan! I was so excited I raced through it to see if you got a mention and then told CubHubby about it and made him read the article.
I’d love to see this car.
Woo hoo!
Apparently, no one else on the planet who knows a great deal about the car is willing to talk to the folks about how to restore one. So, I’ve been the one tracking down information that they need on the car. I’m also trying to document everything I can about the car, so that the next time someone goes to restore one, they don’t have the problems that we’re having. (The car was a wreck when we got it. Seriously, I’ve bought lots of cars that were in better shape, for far, far, far less than what the owner paid for Lucas’s Tucker.)
Cub Mistress, Classic Muscle is in the phone book, so if you give 'em a call, they’ll be more than happy to schedule an appointment for you to come and take a gander at the car.
Wow, that must be fun, working on a rare car like that.
But I was a bit concerned about something I read in that article. Neat though it would be to resurrect the Tucker production line, I think your boss is going to lose his shirt (unless he keeps the production run very very small, maybe a dozen tops).
I wanted to see a full view of a Tucker so I did a little Googling. I found a couple great pics of your car at the Tucker Club website. Sure looks pretty and you guys did a great job restoring it.
I wanted to see for sure what it looked like because someone used to leave a three-headlighted car occasionally (for several weeks at a time) at the curb near where I used to live. I thought that must have been a Tucker but without even seeing it, my Dad said no, there’s only two in all of Washington state. He knows stuff like this, my Dad does. There’s two listed a the Club site and neither of them are it because it has a big chrome grille on it and doesn’t have the classy, sleek lines of a Tucker. Seems the folks who own it lost interest in restoration since in all those years I’ve seen it, they’ve never put a single coat of paint over the primer. Even if it were all dolled up, your Tucker would be way cooler.
Congrats on the article, TuckerFan!
Actually, its a PITA. The documentation on the cars is scanty at best, and the one surviving fellow who’s done restorations on other Tuckers isn’t being helpful at all. But, it looks damn good on a resume for me!
Well, the plan is to do a limited run of all 3 car designs Tucker was known to be working on: the 48, the Talisman, and the Carioca. If those sell well, and the boss makes enough money, he’ll think about doing a modern version.
Tikki, it’s probably a 49 or so Studebaker, since they look a lot like Tuckers (they even made one up to look like a Tucker for the film, it’s the car that rolls over). There may, in fact, however, be a third Tucker in Washington state. Rumor has it that one of the wrecked cars is sitting in a barn there.
Tucker…
very cool… …uhhh
:smack: make that VERRRY VERY cool…
I love obscure cars.
TSFR
Sorry, double post :o
mmmm… sweet.

I’ll say! Hubba hubba! And it appears to be in Hawaii too. Can it get any better than that?
Actually, it’s most likely Brazil, given that the car’s named for residents of Sao Paulo, and the artist who created the rendering is Brazillian. Still, sweet, no matter where it is.
Didn’t the shopkeeper in Needful Things drive a Tucker?
Yes. According to this page devoted to errors in Stephen King’s books:
*Tuckerfan: The word carioca refers to a resident of Rio de Janeiro – people who live in Sao Paulo refer to themselves as paulistanos.. Regardless, that picture of the Tucker Carioca is definitely a Brazilian scene.
That’s awesome!
You’re right, I couldn’t remember which city it was, and just went with Sao Paulo, since it was the only one I could think of. Sadly, the Talisman didn’t end up in the film version of Needful Things.
