I can’t seem to find the search field…
Is it only for registered members?
Thanks

Yes that is correct. It is a bit of a funny rule really. If you post what you want to search for here, chances are me or someone else will come along and give you some results
I can search for guests.
I found you didn’t I?
Yep, the Search function is one of the perks you get as a Paid Member.
Wouldn’t it be better to have a search link that directed you to a notice saying you need to pay to search? that way, people wouldn’t need to ask this question and it gives them an incentive to subscribe.
Thanks for the answers.
Well, gotta subscribe then, eh?
The sad part is that i’m a poor bastard, hehe.
15 dollars here in brazil for us is like 50 or so bucks for you guys there…
I “heard” something about 4.something dollars to subscribe… but i guess i heard wrong. 15 dollars for 365 days and 6 hours then?
I guess it’s worth.
This question has been done to death. Why didn’t you search first…oh never mind.
There was a special introductory rate of US$4.95, but it expired a number of months ago. The full price is US$14.95. If you truly have difficulty paying the fee, there are some very generous members who may be willing to sponsor you when the time comes.
Thanks for the generosity, wolfstu, but i guess i"ll be able to pay for it alright.
It’s just that my wallet has a really hard to open zipper, you know?
Thanks again for all the humour and support.
I’m sure now that it’s worth my money.
One can always go to boardreader.com and input in the search box:
“straight dope” <searchterm>
Advantage: Guests can use it. Members can use it to search for three lettered words (and less… find all those ER threads).
Disadvantage: It seems that the last time boardreader updated their Straight Dope archive was June 10, 2004.
Now, the powers that be could always register themselves with boardreader and keep the archive up to date and thus attract more people to the SDMB, and thus get more potential paying customers. It seems that the only string is for the SDMB to put up a boardreader banner on the site. I think it’s win-win, but don’t feel strong enough to actually lobby for it (and, of course, the powers that be will have to scrutinize the deal much closer).
Peace.
