Nesting is a nice euphemism for being impatient to finally give birth and therefore I putter endlessly and drive my husband bonkers
On the plus side the baby’s room is mostly ready! I have a crib all nice and baby friendly. There’s a changing table all stocked and ready to go. The dresser is filled with impossibly small clothes that will be worn for approximately 6 weeks. All the other baby rabble has been drudged up from the depths of basement storage and cleaned up nicely… We have a swing and a bouncy chair and a basinette and a tiny bathtub.
We also had to make a decidedly disturbing purchase. A double stroller! Feels very strange to have a stroller this big. There are more cup holders on this stroller than there are in our van! It even has saddle bags to assist with storage. And it holds 2 kids. I’m going to have 2 kids. Feels just as odd as when we had no kids and were trying to envision how the munchkin girl would change our lives. Now we are weeks away from adding the munchkin boy to our family.
I’m almost out of nesting material… need to give birth and SOON!
I almost miss my nesting period. I don’t think my house has been really clean since!
Hope you’re hanging in there okay tanookie, and that things go well. I’m jealous of your double stroller…I thought about getting one but just couldn’t justify the expense when my older boy will be too big to ride in one any day now. I bought a sling for the lil’bit instead, and carry him around in that while I pull the wagon with the toddler. We’re like our own little parade!
So, is your little girl aware of what’s going on? Mine really wasn’t, but once the baby came he was all for it. I’ve actually enjoyed watching the new sibling dynamic develop almost as much as getting the chance to bond with my new baby. It’s really very sweet to watch. Enjoy!
You didn’t mention the Lava Lamp. Where’s the Lava Lamp? These are the BEST THINGS EVER for two o’clock feedings. The woobley wax in there gets just surreal to the sleep-deprived. AND it give off just enough light to see your precious little mucous machine wthout being so bright it actually wakes anyone up.
Yup. Lava Lamps are a gift of the gods. (And with Back to School, they’re on sale.)
The munchkin girl is 27 months and clueless about the baby that is coming. If I so much as mention baby/mommy’s belly she shakes her head, says no (with all the eye roll of a teenager tired of mother’s lectures) and wanders away.
She will be too big for the stroller sooner than we are ready (she’s over 3 feet tall and 36 pounds already - in a size 4/5) but we are going to push our luck and keep using the stroller after she’s technically too big. I got a sling too but hubby is going to be in charge of most child locomotion for a while and I won’t be able to carry a tired, whiny, 2 year old for months after the baby comes since we’re having another C section. We figured it was worth the cash in this regard.
Oooh a lava lamp… we just use regular old nite lites! A lava lamp would be Jake though.
We do have our own hamster though. He’s the Jakest of all for midnight calm a cranky kid sessions. Munchkin girl thinks hamster running in wheel is the best thing ever and watching him has stopped every case of the crankies she’s ever had!
Trust me on this… double strollers manuever and fold differently than singles. Play around with it so you get the hang of it before going out in public with both little ones… especially before going out alone with both little ones.
I totally missed out on my nesting period. We were so busy at work that I would just come home and flop into bed only to be rudely woken by the alarm, drag myself out of bed and head back to the office. I’d planned one month of maternity leave but ended up having the baby on my first day of leave!
And you can post to the boards if your having a C.Section - I know I did. Not during the surgery itself, but I went to see the Ob & Gyn about my waters breaking and he set up the surgery for that night. Then the hospital sent me home for a few hours. First thing I did when I got home was get onto the SDMB and share the news. It was a surreal day, I remember shopping in Target for baby stuff we needed and one lady asked me when I was due. My reply - “about 6 o’clock this evening”.
That is one month before baby was due (and two months after). Turned out really well because I got an extra month with Bubs before I went back to work.
