Thank You, Euphonious Polemic
He obviously uses Olive’s address because he doesn’t want one of his associates to be able to look up where he lives, and come out and beat the crap out of him. He doesn’t want people to be able to find him.
Because Olive does in fact know he lives next-door. It’s never a good idea to lie to cops or goverment officials. And since the follow-up to Olive telling a cop or EMT “He doesn’t live here” is bound to be “Do you know where he is?” a “lie by omission” is out the question too.
I’m confused about this too. Olive, are you in the habid of leaving your door unlocked? Does this happen when you’re not home, or do they walk in when you’re sitting in your living room?
People are weird. D-Bag’s relative finds out D-Bag made a 911 call, responders showed to the wrong door, maybe were told “dunno who you mean” or maybe OP just isn’t home. Relative asks 911 why dispatch went to the wrong door. 911 says, “cuz that’s the address.” It’s his address all over the place. OP gets asked “Did ya know about the address cockup?” “yup” “What’d ya do about it?” “Nuthin.” People can be counted onto place blame somewhere, and relatives can be counted on to place blame anywhere but on their own, especially their dead. Not saying OP would lose a suit in the matter but it’d be a nasty headache until it went away.
Not saying it’s a certainty, or even a major point worthy of a bunch of defense here or a lot of worry for OP, but not unrealistic either. I’ve seen car accident victims sue the previous vehicle owner because they couldn’t locate the guy he’d sold the car to 6 months ago–just because the new owner never got around to retitling the car. No they didn’t prevail, but the defendants had to go through a bunch more crap than they’d have liked to get to that point. Whatevs. What do I know? I’m sure OP can just continue to ignore the situation and no harm will come of it.

I lock my doors when I go out because of the vacation renters walking in. But only when I go out. Most people in my town don’t lock their doors at all. Its been about 6 months since anyone has walked right in. I used to get it all the time. A couple times a week.
So lock your door? Or get a new lock if the old one isn’t keeping them out?
Even if you’re normally one of those “never lock our doors” types, you’re clearly in a situation where you now need to be one of those “keeps the doors locked” types.
We’ll, if you lock yours two things will happen. No one will walk in, and you might start a trend.
I had a neighbour once who would constantly complain about stuff but then insist on ignoring all of the suggestions from other folk of ways to fix the problem.
I am not looking for suggestions to fix any problems. No where in my post does it say ‘what should i do?’
Or the vacationer will grow increasingly frustrated about his key not working and try to break in through one of Olive’s windows. The vacation rental thing is seriously bizarre; unless of course it’s part of a scam why would he give them the wrong address? :dubious: I really wonder what he tells people who call him up complaining about their keys not working.
Go find a legal aid society and see if there’s something you can do like a restraining order against him using your information. Or go get a free attorney consultation. Find out what rights you really have in your community.
The vacationers are usually looking for his house so that he can give them keys. I assume once he gives them a key they go to the proper rental.
Post a nice big sign telling people his correct address and phone number. Not your fault, you are just making sure that anybody shows up while you are out that they can find him Not your fault they go and put the boot in.
Olive, sign him up for Parent magazine and National Geographic Kids while you are at it. Start dropping his address into every free drawing offer around town. When the DAV calls, schedule a pickup at his address. Go wild.
Then herein lies the problem. Don’t start an MPSIMS thread if you’re just looking to vent and don’t want solutions. The proper place for this would be the monthly mini-rant thread in the BBQ Pit.
What type of business is your neighbor running?
Then why not just put an address in a completely different city?
Yes, why give the next door address?
Monkey business.
And, carnivorousplant, it’s because his dad told him that the best place to hide a pair of socks is in the sock drawer.
