So this is weird...(some board hiccups)

I moused over this thread in MPSIMS “Where were you when the lights went out?” and this is the text that shows:

I clicked on the thread to see how the title and the text were related but the text doesn’t show up anywhere in the thread.

Here’s a screen shot of the mouseover.

I’m guessing the text was from this thread about TV Tropes. But the text doesn’t exist there now. I’m thinking maybe it got posted as “the lights went out” and the database has some mixed-up IDs?

I went to search for “automated thing” in the site search and came up with

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1151

So anyway…if anyone’s interested, we have some glitches. It’s NBD to me just thought I’d point it out.

Doing a google search of the boards for “about a tentacle article” brings up only this thread and the other thread, where it shows up because people are talking about the mouseover oddity.

I’m really curious about this.

That’s a weird one alright.

I had a bad day yesterday. Couldn’t get to board all day. Then when my browser recognized it I couldn’t log in. I wondered if the SD server was in tornado alley or something.

BTW, it costs money to run a board like this, and up-grades cost even more money…

But don’t look at me. At least not now.

Apparently there was some weirdness around the time that the hosting company took all the sites down for maintenance/upgrade. This was in response to the outage from last week, which happened after the hosting company physical site had a fire.

Everything appears to be fine now but there’s an occasional vestige of strangeness from when things went Dixie. Sorry about that.

For the record, the ‘Where were you…’ thread still has the same mouseover text…

I doubt it will change.

Just an artifact of that wacky moment.

So how does mouseover text work? Is it some kind of scan and store feature?
