The SDMB was the target of a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack on Thursday 4/21. After several hours we succeeded in getting the board back online, but continuing problems prevent most users (including most of the staff) from logging in. Just FYI, I’m still having an issue. As I move around, thread to thread within seconds of each other I need to keep logging in. It won’t “hold” my logged in status.

So, are we sure it was just a DDoS?
Reason I ask is, if they were able to hijack the site’s domain and were in control of a “dummy” SDMB for a while, they could have been able to capture all the failed login/passwords.
I changed mine just in case.

If that’s true, I wonder what happened to the socks that were intentionally created in the last few hours, or passwords that were changed during the outage. Did the user database get restored from a backup as well, wiping those out?
