I’m saying that the likely result would be a colorful and memorable examination of the myriad errors in your thinking. That’s the sort of analysis CPO’s and CWO’s do for a living.
They were less rabid, and also got distracted by Iraq. And they still laid much of the groundwork they needed; driving their opponents out of government, and installing their fellow true believers.
Trump quantitatively got no new voters. His percentages among blacks and Latinos were smaller than Romney’s. Turnout from blacks and millennials was much lower than in 2012 and 2008.
This tells us that voters who typically vote Republican will vote Republican even if there’s a lizard at the top of the ticket. Some of those voters will have preferred the lizard over previous humanoid candidates, and will gleefully claim their mandate from the lizard’s electoral elevation.
It doesn’t tell us why those voters who voted the way they typically vote did something so typical. And it doesn’t tell us why the voters who sometimes vote the other way chose not to vote this time. My guess is they didn’t feel like voting for Hillary Clinton, and there are a lot of reasons for that including those I cited in the other post.

This, too. Also.
Of course, you fool, that was one of his doubles. He was still recovering from the suspended animation chamber and hadn’t regained his full energy profile.
It’s almost like you haven’t been keeping up with Infowars. How do we know this is really you?
“Stop worrying about Donald Trump! He’s not serious about this presidential campaign, and he’ll drop out any day now…”
“Stop worrying about Donald Trump! He’s a joke candidate - it’s not like he’s going to win the Republican primary…”
“Stop worrying about Donald Trump! There’s no way the American people are dumb enough to elect him President…”
“Stop worrying about Donald Trump! Now that he’s elected he’ll have to moderate his views. He’s not going to fill his government with extreme right-wingers…”
After the fourth meteorite hits you, you’d be foolish not to take concerns that the sky is falling seriously.
You’re probably right. That doesn’t been he won’t run roughshod over a lot of people’s rights. nor encourage the more unsavoury elements in American society to do even worse. Just because the worst possible scenario doesn’t happen doesn’t mean things can’t get really bad.
Because at that point it might be too late.
What does this mean? What can we do now, if we all agree that this is really terrible, to prevent it from happening? The crux of the argument seems to be, “We should all agree our country is on the verge of destruction now, instead of later” but I don’t understand how freaking out earlier changes anything.
I didn’t say anything about “freaking out”.
As for what it means: for starters, it means we have to stop handwaving away the idea that Very Bad Things Could Happen. We have to take reassurances that Of Course The Very Bad Things Aren’t Going To Happen - Everything Will Be Fine with some very substantial grains of salt and make sure that we do not let our desperate optimism prevent us from seeing the writing on the wall. Recall that the Bush White House assured Congress that it needed the authority to declare war on Iraq in order to force Iraq to comply with inspections so that we wouldn’t have to go to war. How did that work out?
In short, we have to assume the worst is possible and do everything in our power now to militate against that outcome rather than waiting until it’s not just possible but inevitable. And if the worst wasn’t going to come, what harm have we done?

Mr. Higbie, in fact, is not nominated for any position but public blowhard who represents money. I was in error.
Thelma Lou:
Untrue. Mein Kampf was published in 1925, well before Hitler was ever elected to any sort of public office. His racist philosophy was there for all Germans to see.
And “you” won? “You” won by one million fewer votes, or is it one and a half million fewer votes now? And this smashing victory is why you are so sure that you know exactly what the American voter wants?
My mistake, according to Slate, it now stands at 1.7 million.
Didn’t mean to interrupt, Starkers, you were telling me about your keen insights into the American voter?
I agree liberals have been overzealous with the language policing. That said, there are certain things, that if you say them, make you an asshole and I would fervently hope that asshole behavior would be called out. A woman who says men are giant, incompetent babies is being misandrist and should be called out as such. A man who normalizes misogyny and sexual assault by bragging about it is an asshole just as well. Just as certain liberals wish to always control the narrative, there is a certain contingent of conservatives who cry “oppression” because they can’t spew their bigotry without social censure. Donald Trump (if he can even be called a conservative) is one of them. He is an asshole. No amount of blaming liberals for suppressing conservative speech will change the fact that he often says things no decent human would ever say.
He has a point. When Obama won— twice— it was proof positive that the American electorate agreed with everything I believed. Now that Trump won the Electoral College, it means that everyone changed their minds and now agrees with everything SA thinks.
It’s hard science. Don’t fight it.
It’s not a prediction. It’s a scenario for how things change from “I will defend the country against Hitler” to “I will shoot citizens for Hitler”. It doesn’t happen overnight.
When you have civil unrest it is very very easy for the “Law and Order” types to decide that harsh measures are needed to deal with the scum who are destroying the country. And it’s inevitable in America that if you have massive demonstrations you’re going to have one or two assholes who have guns and incendiaries. And when one cop gets shot, then it’s open season on each and every protester. And they’ll deserve it, because they shot at cops, right? Don’t shoot at cops if you don’t want to be beaten, tear gassed, arrested, and detained, because all protesters are responsible for the actions of every other protester.
By the time things get bad enough that people take to the streets, it’s already too late. First you have the systemic corruption where all things are possible for supporters of the regime, and nothing is possible for the opponents. By the time people get annoyed enough at the third world style oligarchs to take to the streets, they get crushed by the militarized police. Hitler is the wrong model here, Trump is more like Hugo Chavez.
OK, glad to hear. Perhaps you can understand my confusion since you started by saying “What’s going to happen is…”.
But Obama took all our guns, and put us all in FEMA camps where we were forced to become Muslims. How soon they forget
People have already protested and rioted. Where are the tanks?
He hasn’t yet taken the necessary step of placing his hand on the Bible and trying to explain why it burst into flames.
The Bible was an e-book on a Galaxy 7 phone?
