So, this is what it looks like before the war.

We’re going to keep crying “Hitler!” and one day Hitler will come and nobody will take us seriously. People called GW Bush Hitler, too. I was a college student at a huge liberal university and you’d have thought Armageddon was upon us. It was even dumber then, because Trump is so much worse, but people had their reasons for thinking Bush was a fascist. One of my favorite things happened when a guy who had lived through an actual dictatorship confronted a student with a “Bush is fascist” sign. Man, he read that kid the riot act. News flash : if you can carry a protest sign on main campus, you probably don’t live in a dictatorship.

The reason his big yap is flapping was his likelihood of becoming just that. That’s why he was on TV.

And, just as I said, he didn’t suggest he was going to start internment camps, only that they already had the legal authority to do so, hence, “precedent”.

See, Trump and his lapdogs in Congress aren’t going to start up the machinery on Day 1. That’s not how it works.

What’s going to happen is that Trump is going to be terrible. There will be economic fallout. People losing their jobs. White people losing their jobs, that is. Do they blame Trump for that? Of course not! It’s all the fault of the Mexicans and Liberals.

Trump says something stupid. There’s a protest, people are blocking the streets and being an incredible nuisance, and Trump has them all arrested. But they’re asshole liberals, they deserve it, and I just want to go to work without being blocked by assholes playing bongo drums.

Then there’s a protest that turns into a riot. People are getting the crap kicked out of them by the cops, and the country nods approval. Then somebody starts shooting at cops. And the army is sent in to stop the riot. Rioters are dead, cops are dead, soldiers are dead. Do people worry about this? No, because it’s a riot, and the rioters get what they deserve. But somehow the brutality sparks more riots. What do do? More brutality, of course.

This is how the “I took an oath to defend the Constitution against Hitler” won’t mean a thing. You’re a cop or a soldier facing a mass of angry violent people throwing rocks and setting things on fire, and some of them probably have guns, this is America after all. And when your buddies start getting hit, you shoot into the crowd in self defense. Now what happens at the next riot? What happens to the people who blame the army and the cops for the massacres? They’re inciting riots, right? That’s a fucking crime, just because you didn’t throw a molotov cocktail yourself, you encouraged it, that makes you just as guilty.

And even if it’s not quite a crime that can be punished, somehow these annoying people end up having their houses burn down, or they go missing. And somehow these crimes can never be solved. It’s not necessary for the cops to violate the first amendment by arresting people for political speech. They just have to look the other way when bad things happen to the opponents of the regime.

He might not be in line to be a Hitler. But I’m thinking the more likely scenario is that he is a new Bernie Madoff.

We the people, the electorate, have basically just laid back and said go for it big boy. And you don’t have to ask yourself too hard: Will he?. He would be a very poor businessman if he didn’t take full advantage of the mandate that the people gave him to play with the system for the benefit of anyone he chooses. It’s his duty to his shareholders and his family.

Whenever I have talked to a Trump voter I am convinced that they would be OK with this. The Hillary derangement is so strong they are incapable of indignation at anything else.

That sounds like a more realistic analysis. I doubt Trump gives a god damn about immigrants or white nationalism or any of that crap. He cares about increasing his bottom line and building on his brand. That reality is going to have its own terrible fallout.

It’s much more likely to go the other way though. I mean, I’m sure Trump is going to be padding his bank accounts. But the real power is funneling tax money to your supporters, and using the regulatory power of the state against your enemies. You won’t be able to operate your business unless you’re one of Trump’s men. And this creates a self-perpetuating oligarchy, even after Trump is moldering in the grave. This is how authoritarian leaders rule in 2016.

This article explains how it all will work:

Of course not. And I don’t believe they will. But for this country to become the totalitarian dystopia that is being predicted by Der Trihs, that’s about what it will take. So, I repeat: the US is in no way resembling 1933 Germany. In fact, it doesn’t even resemble the US in 1968.

So we be repealing the Posse Comitatus Act before then, or is Trump just going to preemptively declare himself dictator?

To their face? Are you implying that a sound thrashing would occur?

Who leaked the plan?

I know. Poor angry, violent rioters out there throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails, shooting cops and setting things on fire. Won’t somebody please think of them for a change?

Can we take that as a prediction?

I submit that it emphatically is why “you” lost the election. Far too many people in this country feel entitled to tell other people what to do, and to attack them aggressively and unforgivingly if they don’t instantly conform. Fifty years of social engineering have brought us to the point that everyone is on the lookout for offense and everyone is fighting with everyone else. Liberals are even turning on each other in their eagerness to take offense and attack someone for some social grievance (see Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osborn, Ellen Degeneres for ridiculous examples). What was in the beginning of the racial equality movement a desire for integration has now become the opposite, where only members of certain races or cultural groups are allowed to look or dress a certain way, and in typical liberal fashion, anyone purposely or accidentally committing the sin of ‘cultural appropriation’ are attacked and insulted mercilessly. And of course this doesn’t even begin to address liberal attitudes toward conservatives and Republicans, who are invariably and relentlessly portrayed and demeaned as being racist and sexist and stupid and mean spirited and evil.

Much if not most of America’s votership has gotten well and truly fed up with this shit. The problem has been that until Trump no Republican leader has had the gumption to stand up to it for fear of running afoul of political correctness. So all the resentment and anger that the left had been creating all these decades sat there simmering under the surface, largely invisible but very much there.

Then along came Donald Trump, at least a quasi-conservative who didn’t give a tinker’s damn about political correctness and said so right out loud. And he didn’t care if anyone approved or not. He spoke to the concerns and dislikes much of America had, and he didn’t give a shit whether the news or entertainment media approved. He 'told it like it was, and that resonated with a huge number of people.

Liberals such as yourself have always underestimated and you continue to underestimate the amount of scorn, contempt, dislike and even hate that much of the citizenry of this country harbors for the standard operating procedures of liberalism. And the fact that these people finally had a champion willing and able to look it in the eye and and tell it to go pound sand is exactly why people like you are mystified that evangelicals supported Trump despite his playboy ways, and why so many women (and educated women at that) supported him despite his boorish and overtly sexual behavior, and why young college-educated white guys supported him despite the fact they weren’t part of the ‘angry old white guy’ demographic that was supposedly Trump’s primary and virtually only constituency. And it’s likely that Trump would have garnered many million more votes from people similarly agitated had they not been turned off by his approach.

So you go right on ahead with your insistence on not caring about ‘idiot opinions and attitudes’ and your belief that ‘no American who cares about government’ could possibly have a worthwhile view different from yours, and that you should properly ‘marginalize…deride, dispute, mock, label or look down upon’ anyone who fails to fall in line with your idea of how the world should work. And the more you do, the more schadenfreude you’ll create for the rest of us as you manufacture more and more support for Trump and his administration, and for future Republicans who will follow in Trump’s footsteps because they’ve learned through him that political correctness is a bogeyman they don’t need to fear after all because most of the country’s votership is fed up with it.

What makes you assume it’ll be Trump? Trump by himself isn’t the biggest problem; it’s that the Republicans have control of the entire government. The odds are quite good that Trump will quit or be impeached and we’ll see President Pence. And after him, some other far-right fanatic. Trump is just the tool that let the neofascists gain power, he’s not their driving force.

  • Their* driving force is a hatred of everyone who isn’t exactly like them, and the desire to turn America into a totalitarian racist theocracy. And now they have the power to do it.

Anyone else watch Obama address the crowd today at the Asia-Pacific summit?

He didn’t have the usual swagger you expect from him, especially in last big appearance on the world stage as President. The past few weeks his swagger has been off the charts & it’s always naturally high.

It’s almost like he knows something big is on the way.

He’d be stupid if he didn’t. Pretty much everything he’s cared about and worked for is going to be destroyed.

If they are smart he and Hillary will leave the country and not come back. Trump and the Republicans will probably manufacture some kind of charges and throw them in prison or execute them if they stay.

What then, pray tell, was stopping them from bringing the Fourth Reich into existence the last time they held the presidency and Congress?

To the contrary - Obama seems to be far more optimistic about the future of this country than you are.

Lord help the average Doper if this really is the prelude to civil war. Those sloped browed Neanderthals you so love do deride will eat your lunch whether you’re in a safe zone or not.

Maybe there’s a bit of leftover “Nazi” in every German-descended white American that has been waiting to come out.

Despire it’s inherent stupidity & sheer ridiculousness, the Trump fearmongering machine has proven effective.

If that’s true then it will have been because people fought tooth and nail against the Trump administration and reacted loudly and strongly against every move it makes in such directions.
