So this morning I killed my first mammal....

I have tried to at the farmhouse I was renting in Vermont and a couple of times in semi-rural Massachusetts. I would come home at night and a herd of them would just be standing there doing whatever it is deer do when they hang out and wouldn’t move like they owned the place. I would try to pull in the driveway and they would just look at me like I was the one being an asshole so I was just keep going until they scattered but they would be back again the next night. They were hoodlums but I wasn’t going to stop just because they were brazen.

However, that is nothing compared to my aunt and uncle’s house in Colorado Springs. Large mule deer just hang out in their yard and everywhere else all day, every day. My uncle is the most peaceful guy in the world but he keeps a slingshot with large pellets just to pop them in the ass and make them go away when they are eating the plants but they just move to the neighbor’s yard and come right back. That isn’t to mention the bears and mountain lions. Colorado Springs isn’t some backwater. It is the second largest city in Colorado after Denver but some urban minded species think it is the perfect place to be rather than the nearby Rockies where it is presumably more inconvenient for them.

Well, if it was white, it was domestic.

Was.
