So, uh...Kittens.

My family recently welcomed in a stray cat that has become mine. I named her Snuggleslut but that has become a misnomer really, in that she is no longer very snuggly. What I thought was a super affectionate cat soon settled down into being a typical “I’ll come when I want to be petted or to see what food you are eating” kind of cat.
However, I will say that she is definitely an interesting cat in that she is the chillest cat I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been bit, scratched, or even hissed at. At first we weren’t even sure if she had claws, she never used them! I can carry her around and pet her anywhere on her body, no negative reactions. She rarely meows which is a nice break compared to my sister’s banshee cat. Her meow is at best a silent one or just a little squeak. I’ve even accidentally stepped on her tail (:() and no noise! Just a “hey, I better get out of the way before that foot comes near me again” kind of reaction.
Anyway, she’s a pretty decent cat all things considered. I realized that she lived up to the second part of her name when I saw her tiny frame grow rapidly bigger. She’s full of kittens, I realized. After a seven hour school day I came home to see that she decided to have her kittens in my drawer while I was away. I evicted them from my drawer into a little box, making sure she’s fed and warm. It’s the first time I’ve dealt with kittens. After they’ve been weaned I’m giving them to a nearby pet shop and spaying her afterward. Until then I think it’ll be fun to watch them grow.

Drawer kitties!
Box kitties!

Awww! I want one!

Kittens totally fucking rock!

Smiling mom cats are great.

Moar!

Awww- wittle babycats! And a beautiful lady-cat, too!

My “babycat” is 12 years old, now… sniff

Sorry, but I won’t believe that those are kittens until I can see their faces.

Will get more pics soon.
I awoke this morning to find that she had given birth to another black and white kitten but unfortunately it didn’t survive. :frowning:

Are you sure the pet shop is a good idea? Do you know that they will treat the kittens kindly and assure that they will get good homes?

ETA: Cute pics.

Thanks for the pics - we’d love to see more! That said, yes, please make sure she gets spayed, and that you’ve taken responsibility for making sure the kittens go to good loving homes. It might be better for you to re-home them directly.

I wondered about this, too. I won’t hijack your thread with my views on cats and dogs being sold in stores, so can I just suggest, as alternatives, that you find them good homes on your own(word-of-mouth might be all the advertising you’ll need)? Or maybe find a no-kill shelter in your area that could place them for you? Just some suggestions.

Too bad about the newest kitten :frowning:

I want one too!!!

No, no, it’s not a corporate petshop like Petsmart or anything. It’s just a tiny shop that has been in the city for years. My brother and friends have worked there and I talk to the owner on a frequent basis, I trust the owner. They take wonderful care of their animals and are always very knowledgeable. I may look into the no kill shelter but I don’t know yet. I’d like to stick with the petshop that I am familiar with as opposed to a place I know nothing about but like I said, there’s still time to think over on it.

There’s no way I could find homes for all the kittens on my own. I will if I can though, luckily I have one facebook buddy who is interested in taking one.

I am still sad about the fourth kitten. :frowning: But I came home today to find another black and white kitten had been born. She’s a baby machine!

Good grief, they’re still popping out? (And your clarification suggests that the pet shop would be a good way to re-home them.)

You’re SOOO gonna wind up keeping one, aren’t you?

Yay, kitties! They are so wonderful. Be sure to cuddle and handle them yourself so they are used to, and can bond with, people.

And, of course, you’ll post pics for us every week. Right? Right?

Ask the no kill shelter and local cat rescue people what they think of the pet store. Don’t tell them you know the owner nor you used to work there. If you get a paw up from the cat rescue people, by all means consider giving them to the pet store.

squeeeeeeeee!!!
Mama kitteh looks like my Smokey!

She is extremely lovely.

Duckster, that’s a good idea. I think I’m gonna try that, thanks.

Purplehorseshoe, I wish I could! The two black and white ones look a little tuxedo-ish and I’ve always had a soft spot for those. Unfortunately I live in a bungalow and it’s pretty saturated with three cats (Snuggles, my sister’s, and my brother’s.) My dad has been pressuring me to get rid of Snuggles, I’m trying to hold out until I graduate, land a job, and am able to get my own place.

I think the main thing that’s rough is that my dad told my brother that when he returned home, he could bring his cat (Jazz) to live with us. I had acquired Snuggles between the time he was told that and when he came. Snuggles gets along with my sister’s cat (Noodles) but will beat the snot out of Jazz at first sight. :frowning: Even though she’s much smaller, she has claws (Jazz doesn’t) and something about him brings out a ferociousness that I never see in her otherwise. Jazz is confined to one room at the time and I feel really bad. :frowning: My brother says that he will return him to my mom’s and he doesn’t want Snuggles to get kicked out. Has anyone had anything similar before? Any tips/tricks? I really wish there was a way all three could live together.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I’ll definitely be posting some more pictures in a day or so.

Mr. Fancypants le runt, fashionably late to the party. Already comes with lovely white gloves, a tuxedo chest, and white boots.

Mama, still keepin’ it cool.

Cute pics!
