So um, this is not going well so far

Indeed from Clancy, specifically Debt of Honor. The US financial markets have been crashed by a catastrophic hacking attack and since the records were deleted no one knows where to start in order to rebuild. Cathy Ryan (wife of the hero character Jack Ryan) quotes this phrase, giving Jack the idea to just set the clock back to where it was right before the attack. And of course the various stock traders involved stick to ethical trading and before we know it the stock market is better off than it ever was.

Debt of Honor is also the novel in which a man at the controls of a jet crashes it into the Capitol building and takes most of the US government with him. Use of an airplane as a missile is of course not a new idea (and the pilot is Japanese) but Debt of Honor was very particular in noting exactly how one could crash a jet into the Capitol. The book was published in 1994.

It made sense under the circumstances, thanks to spite. They knew that it was an attack, not bad luck; so in the short term I’d* expect* them to act in a way that boosts the market just to stick it in the eye of the people responsible. It wouldn’t last long of course, but likely long enough for a surge in the market.

They’ll always have 2016.

Take that, liberals!

And now we know how it will get so well-oiled.

The problem is that the next logical response is “No, that shows you’re an idiot.” Apparently we’re not allowed to point out when stupid people do stupid things (like voting for someone blatantly lying to them about, well, everything) anymore because it makes them do even stupider things.

Right. In case anyone thinks this is he said, she said, the situation is like this:

I was saying that trump is a pathological liar, and gave a number of examples of blatant lies. Lies that show utter contempt for the intelligence of his supporters, and the American public in general.

The retort to this is not to defend anything Trump has said or done. It’s apparently to say: “Well, dopers are liars!”: a meaninglessly broad statement about a community of thousands that includes the person that made the comment. Touche!

Ah crap, that was meant to be a response to something said in another thread
Too many Trump threads…

Joke’s on me

To me, fake news contains lies produced by the reporter spun out of whole cloth. Twisting or contextomizing a President’s words does not fit the definition IMO. If someone wrote an article making up a quote that Obama said “we should raise taxes on all Republicans by 20%” then that would be fake news.

For instance, I consider Faux News to be Faux “News” because its journalistic integrity is so low that it shouldn’t be considered journalism, but not “Faux News” because the term “Fake News” should be reserved for more blatantly fictional reporting.

That’s fine for you, but if you’re trying to suggest that in general people who are more local to actual pipelines are more likely to oppose them, it appears that the opposite is true.

With all due respect to those who died when the third plane on 9/11 crashed into the Pentagon, and their loved ones, we as a nation are extremely lucky that the hijackers chose the Pentagon over the Capitol as their target. As horrible as that day was, it could have been much worse.

I believe United 93 was headed for the Capitol. Thank God for those brave souls.

Remember that Flight 93 was thought to be heading for either the White House or the Capitol.

Of course, he had to get his Goebbels and Göring in place before he could fill any of those other, less important posts now, didn’t he?

The AP reports that the Trump administration has been considering mobilizing up to 100,000 National Guard troops to round up and deport undocumented immigrants in 11 states. Spicer denies the reports. AP claims to have read the plans in an 11 page draft memo.

Putting aside the legal and moral issues a moment, how would we manage the logistics of expelling millions of people in a short period of time? There’s bound to be a period when they’re in custody waiting to be sent to their home countries. Whaddya do with them? How do you quickly house thousands, perhaps millions of people against their will? Let’s ask Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka. I bet they have some suggestions.

I’m surprised the White House is denying this. Trump is just following through on his campaign promise to round up and deport 11 million illegal immigrants – how that happen are just logistical details.

One does have to admit that he seems intent on keeping his campaign promises, no matter how hare-brained, immoral, unconstitutional, or financially ruinous they might have been.

If you give them warning, the bad hombres will have time to react.

Republican Health Proposal Would Redirect Money From Poor to Rich

Trucks and cattle cars, no doubt. Just load anyone who fails the paper bag test up at gunpoint, dump them over the border and that’s that; if they die of thirst or starvation that’s Mexico’s problem, as is disposing of the corpses of those who died on the way. Shoot anybody who tries to run back into the US.

After enough millions of people have been purged, the US will be the all-white nation Trump and company want.

Someone at Fox is not buying the bullshit and is breaking ranks
Fox News anchor Shepard Smith on Thursday criticized President Trump for bashing reporters gathered at a lengthy Thursday press conference, calling on him to answer legitimate questions from news outlets.

Well, Bannon probably has some solutions. Some of them preliminary, and others more final.

Shepard Smith should go on Seth Meyer’s show and play the fun game of “Really?” He can be the new Amy Poehler.
