So we just found a stray puppy

Thanks for saving one little life! She looks adorable-hope she finds a home (before you get attached to her).

She’s adorable!

And it looks like it might be too late to avoid the attachment factor.

The Court finds that Defendant Puppy is a mongrel with inclinations to mischief. As such, she is a danger to society and cannot be allowed to roam the streets.

The Court hereby sentences Defendant Puppy to life imprisonment, under the supervision of one Palo Verde, who is known to the Court to be of good moral character and fully capable of dealing with this miscreant as may be required.

So Ordered, this the 24th Day of April, 2010.

I wish I could! But I already have 3 kids and 2 cats, and the cats are rough on dogs! I kept my friend’s dog last summer while she went on vacation, and the cats would trap that poor thing in a corner because he was too scared to walk past them. You’d only know he was trapped when you heard WOOF! My cats are dog-torturers.

But he is soooo cute!

Dog looks like a Doper to me. Keep!

We took the dog to the Humane Society and found that she isn’t microchipped, doesn’t have a lost report on her, is 6-8 weeks old and is covered with ticks.

So now what? I’ve been picking off the ticks, bought some rawhides strips to chew on, and we’re comtemplating what to do.

I’ve lived here for 14 years and I never knew there were ticks here. Ticks??!

Oh, come on. You know what you’re going to do.

ETA - Zsofia, accidental owner of a third cat after vowing to “take him to the vet and find him a good home”.

If the ticks are all over her then she’s been seriously neglected and/or on her own for awhile. Wonder what she was eating?

If she has a fair amount of Jack Russell in her the tables will soon turn.

Pal would be a good name.

She is cute to die for! I think you should name her Ethel.

OK, you need to give her a good bath with baby shampoo. She’s probably too young for a flea and tick shampoo. Kittens of that age are too young for them, but dogs and cats are different. Anyway, just bathing the poor thing, even with baby shampoo, will get rid of a whole hell of a lot of ticks. You’re going to have to bathe her a couple of times, and then repeat the whole process in another week or two. Get Frontline or Advantage, if it’s safe for puppies of that age. Don’t use a flea collar. Give her puppy food and plenty of drinking water. And love her.

Thanks for doing this! My wife recently brought home a stray pup. We listed it and I drove around looking for LOST signs. No reply.

She now lives with our neighbor.

I would suggest Immigrant or Apaio

… the pup, not my wife!

Oh, she’s adorable!

Even if you decide not to keep her, a trip to the vet is in order. They’ll be able to recommend an appropriate tick treatment and food (at that age she should probably still be on puppy food, not adult dog food - but again, ask a vet), will be another source for finding a possible owner - and if you decide not to keep her, a vet may well know of someone looking to adopt a puppy.

But you should definitely keep her, because she’s adorable, and definitely sounds like a good dog.

Nipper was my first thought, followed closely by maybe Spot. Or I can see her as Snowball.

Lucky you!! She looks like an “Alba” to me.

One of my cats was an unintentional adoption. I love him to death, but I never intended to be a multi-cat house. Oh well. Sometimes life gives you puppies and you just have to make the best of it.

I think she looks like a Scout.

Here’s my update. We were taking her for a walk (she was obviously unused to a leash, but learned quickly) and we ran into my neighbors. It turns out they are thinking about getting a puppy. Of course they were charmed by our little visitor and agreed to have her at their house for an hour or so to see how she gets along with their older dog and cat. She is still over there now.

I hope they decide to take her, because they are great pet owners and I know she would be in excellent hands. But also because I would get to see her whenever I want.

Cross your fingers!
