So we're at home today, trying to figure out exactly what is missing...

Looks like about 50 DVDs and a currently unknown number of CDs & Playstation games have walked out over the past few days. We think the young man who had been staying with us for a little bit had something to do with this; he’s the only around here with a key (his mom gave us that back last night). It’s possible that someone came in through the balcony but, being three flights up, that’s not very likely.

Naturally, the creep(s) didn’t leave the cases and we don’t have receipts so getting anything out of our homeowner’s insurance isn’t likely, either. Damn.

Sorry to hear - especially when trying to help someone out

Are you sure he didnt make a copy of the key before it was returned?

And dont be too surprised if you can slide a plastic card between the door & frame to pop the door open.

It’s possible, but we only gave him a key for the knob. He didn’t have one for the deadbolt, which we don’t usually lock.

No good deed my friend.

Sorry this happened.

You are changing the locks right now, right?

You don’t really need receipts but it is likely your claim would be less that your deductable.

Just paid the condo fee & mortgage, not sure if the condo association would cover the expense. We’re just keeping both the knob and deadbolt locked until we can get the knob changed. The only ones with keys to both are the maintenance staff and ourselves; I doubt maintenance was involved.

Wow, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that :frowning:

What have you lost? I can look through my collection and see if I’ve got any replacements…

AC is still checking her stuff. I’m missing:

Band of Brothers
Kingdom Hospital
Firefly
The Muppet Show seasons 1 & 2
The 10th Kingdom
John Fogerty: The Long Road Home
Pink Floyd: Pulse

So, is there a good possibility that you can track him down and rip his throat out?

Sent you a PM.

Nothing is worse than a theif with good taste. Have you phoned his mother regarding the seeming evaporation of your goods? You seem to have been in contact with her recently.

Keep an eye on the local pawn shops. Odds are you’ll be able to get most of your original stuff back for a fraction of the original cost. In fact, if you see everything you lost in one pawn shop, it might be worthwhile to drop a dime to the cops; pawn shops require i.d. when you sell them things.

Finding him isn’t a problem; proving that he’s involved is.

Yeah. Pretty much all she’s done is return the key and tell him he isn’t coming here anymore.

Marlitharn: pawn shops is a good idea. We’ve already checked other places that take used DVDs.

Whoa!

Maybe you should file a police report and check that homeowners policy. That’s like $2000+.

They’re on their way now that we have a list.

Major bummer, dude.

I hope you’d at least burned some of those cds to an MP3 player…

We think only a few CDs were taken but we can’t be sure because we don’t have an inventory for those. The ones we know about had been copied to iTunes.

I know it’s a drop in the DVD bucket, but I have a perfectly good absolutely spare copy of Firefly. Throw me a PM and I’ll drop it in the mail for you.
