So what did you do......

Bitched, whined, and complained about not having the board.

Posted a whole lot more than usual to another message board.

Kept checking to see if the SDMB was back.

Wondered WTF happened.

Eschew Obfuscation

I got more work done on my own website in the past 30 hours than I did in the previous six months combined.

I read sites like CNN.com more often.

I chatted a bunch on #SD and made incessant “Hey guys, know what?” “What?” “Board’s still down” jokes.

I started wishing the Onion would update daily because I needed something amusing to read.

I read old boards on other sites I haven’t touched in months. No danger of me leaving the SDMB for another site.

I chatted more on the phone.

“I guess one person can make a difference, although most of the time they probably shouldn’t.”

I incessantly opened up the web browser every few minutes at work and made futile clicks on “message board” from the Straight Dope home page hoping the board was up.

There was that short space on Wednesday when it was up, and just as I started cruising I got a phone call, and when I came back it was down.

On the brighter side, I did get some sleep and a little work done.

I watched some TV and read a lot.

Found an awesome website --www.dennismcmillan.com – Dennis publishes limited editions of old noir fiction.

Bought “No Good From a Corpse”, a collection by Leigh Brackett. McMillan published 1000 and there were only 4 left.

But it was so frustrating – cuz I knew that Eve likes this kind of stuff and I had no way to tell her about it! (At least I think it was Eve who said she liked the pulps, Jim Thompson, that kind of stuff.)

work

just kidding. I was on three other boards and on one board we made a record, first day with over 100 posts.20 were mine.

I just sat at my computer and whimpered like a puppy the entire time.

“Don’t look at me–I’m irrelevant.”

Please forgive the triple post there. I don’t know what happened, it didn’t even look like it was going to go through.

The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference.

I read a lot of newspapers (online, of course).

I posted in MFSD, as did a few other people. I just peeked in there, and there were five times as many posts as there are most days, which makes me happy. Maybe people will even stick around there now that this MB is back!

“Don’t Do It.”

I got less done. Sat by this box with my finger on the button, saying… come on, come on!!! Missing my Chief so much. Sometimes all we have is this board when the other system is down… Did get some emails from some very special people. God!! I feel like I’m home again. And to my Chief… I love you…

Girlbysea (AKA: ChiefScott’s GBS)

I spent a lot of time in the SD chat.

I stopped in at mfsd.

I spent some time at the TM Other Message Board, read the PoF again, etc. at the TMHP.

I read.

I watched most of an episode of WWTBAM.

I thought of and forget several dozen thread topics.

I played the monkey game.

I logged onto my MUD for the first time in months and posted on the flame board there.

Well, I had sex. Which is fortunate, because that’s about the ONLY think I like better than this board…

(Waiting for someone to talk about how convenient it was for me that the board got hacked while I was with my girlfriend…)

Yer pal,
Satan

You know, it was pretty conveeeeeenient that the board was hacked well Satan was with his girlfriend…

Well, I didn’t get any more work done - it was my last week at my old job, the one week out of the last five years I could tell people to f*** off if they caught me surfing, and the message board GOES DOWN!

Talk about bad timing. :frowning:

So I found that I could access the threads (most of the time), just not the front end (nor reply, nor get any replies from other posters, nor get email addresses). So I started at thread 1 in MPSIMS and started working my way through the old threads. Got to about 140.

If they archive these message boards, future sociologists and historians will have a better view of what life is like for this time period on that for any time in the past.

Satan, I thought you combined your two hobbies into one.

what I would like to know is… where has Coldfire been throughout all this? Hmm?

I am a redhead, you see, and I do not tempt. I insist. -Cristi

Coldfire? He probably went into catatonic shock the first day, slipping into an irreversible coma by the third.

I kept looking over my shoulder, but there was no David B. following me around…sad…

Ate chocolate chip cookies.

Worked on my magnum opus, a.k.a. “Courtship, Seduction, and Politics in Shakespeare’s First Tetralogy.” (I’m tempted to post excerpts, but they would probably cause the entire population of the message board to run screaming and weeping from the room. At least, it always has that effect on me.)

Discovered the snopes board. Discovered that I’m not knowledgeable enough to contribute.

Lusted hopelessly after the guy who sits across from me in Latin class…

Otium, Catulle, tibi molestum est:
otio exsultas nimiumque gestis:
otium et reges prius et beatas
perdidit urbes.

Don’t you remember? About a day before the board crashed, he announced that he was going skiing in Italy for a week…or so he claimed. Makes you wonder, don’t it?
