So.....what did you get?

Let’s hear what neat stuff Dopers got (or gave) for Christmas this year.

The wife got me a really neat little catapult wristwatch, which is really going to liven up faculty meetings next year. From me, she got a Tinker Bell lithograph (signed). And diamonds.

I’m anxiously awaiting reports from my brother about how my soon-to-be 4 namesake nephew is taking to his electric powered, big enough for him to ride in, camo SUV with working cop lights and machine guns.

Other than that, I’ve got the nieces and other nephew covered. I don’t expect to get any material thing, which is OK, as everybody I know is aware that I generally consider stuff to be work. Yes, stuff is work.

Some friends had me over for Christmas dinner tonight, and that was a lot of fun. Several over excited children and young adults whom I’ve known since kiddiehood who will finally talk to us. Good food, too, and snow on Christmas Eve in Houston, Texas!

Uh, I don’t think the machine guns work.

I got my sweetie a wet-dry vac. And a money clip with a half dollar on it. And a book on coin collecting, and the George Carlin book - When is Jesus Bringing the Pork Chops? And a pair of M&M boxers with them rockin’ around the Christmas tree…LOL!

Wow, your brother named his son Ringo? Cool!

I’m hoping tomorrow is at least, well, less cold than today and I can take my 2 year old nephew out in his big-enough-to-ride-in-battery operated 4X4 truck. So far he really enjoys crashing it into the living room furniture.

Of all the presents I’ve given, the one I most look forward to seeing opened, is the guitar Santa got my 6-year-old son. He’s given him one every year since he was 3, yes, but I’m just sure that this will be the year it won’t get dropped or otherwise broken (they’re the el cheapo type), and he might be mature enough to take care of it and have lessons. I’m convinced he’s extremely musical (he also has maracas and bongos) and he’ll be the next Jim Morrison or Eddie Van Halen… well, without all the drugs and death and stuff. He’s been asking for a new one and he’ll be very exicted.
My Secret Santa at work really busted out. She got me a set of coffee mugs, a $10 gift card to Starbucks, and a bottle of Plum wine. I was touched.

Tiger Woods 2004 and 2005 and tons of cheap DVD’s.

I see golf and popcorn in my future.

From Mommy and Daddy, I got cash. Cool. I got extra pressies from Mom, consisting of a fleece throw, which should keep me toasty on the couch, and a Sears gift card. Since I work at Sears, I shouldn’t have too hard a time finding things to buy.

I got more cash from my twin brother and his wife. I must be very hard to shop for.

From my older brother and his wife, I got an electric hot sammich maker. I have no idea where they got the idea for that, but I’ll be sure to get some use out of it. I haven’t received the gift from my true love yet. :frowning: Oh well, hopefully I’ll get it before New Year’s.

I gave my father a new pair of slippers, exactly what he asked for. I got my Mom a couple of Christmas CD’s to listen to at the office. She likes that sort of thing. I got my twin brother a shirt and tie set. He’s a teacher and needs things like that for work. I got my sister-in-law a marble lazy susan for their new house. I was just stuck for anything else to get them. I got my little niece a See N’ Say with panels you can flip over to get lots of sounds from one toy. I got my older brother a revolving TV caddy with slots for pictures and such. I got my other sister-in-law a fleece throw, exactly like the one Mom gave me.

I haven’t bought a gift for my true love yet, as I will see them in February and give it to them then.

Merry Christmas!

I got a french press, to complement last years espresso machine and grinder. I loves me some coffee, mmmm.

The big “awww” moment tonight was supplied by my 2 yr old nephew. He opened a little remote control train toy, thing only has the engine and two cars, but whoooooo boy was it cool! Within 20 minutes we were all down on the floor pushing furniture aside and duct-taping discarded boxes into tunnel shapes for him to drive it thru. He didn’t quite get the remote control idea, so one of the teenagers would drive it as the baby ‘guided’ it thru our cardboard tunnel yard excitedly. Way cute.

I didn’t get anything. I had to pay 50 dollars and pick up the garbage…

I got Volumes 1 and 2 of the Warner Brothers cartoons on DVD, also Season 2 of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show on DVD.
My wife and I usually get some money for Christmas from her grandmother and her parents. This year we are putting it towards a Dyson vacuum cleaner, for which we still need to save up a couple hundred bucks. But it’ll be worth it.

I’m wallowing in post-unwrapping guilt right now; I got way, way, way too many gifts from the family. I feel like Veruca Salt.

Since I just finished sorting through all the loot: a Nintendo DS, two DS games, the Return of the King collectors’ edition DVDs with the Minas Tirith model and everything, Galaxy Quest and Mars Attacks! on DVD, a Half-Life 2 art book, a World of Warcraft art book, not one but two MST3K collections, a book on CSS, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists, the entire anime series Escaflowne in a DVD set, and some jeans that’ll actually fit and a couple of sweaters I really like.

Someone really needs to take my parents and brother aside and tell them, “Don’t spoil the boy; he’ll turn out gay or something.”

From Mom and Dad, a zboard World of Warcraft game specific keyboard [it is a custom keyboard with what would be the right hand butttons on the keyboard assigned as slot and action specific hotkeys, tres cool=)] a 60 day game card for WoW, and a Soya barebones computer to make my own WoW specific gaming computer from miscellaneous spare parts [processor, ram, sound card, video card and HDD. It has the cd-rom, motherboard, power brick, cooling fans, speakers, mouse and keyboard] In feb [my final car payment is in jan=)] we will finally both be able to play WoW at the same time=)

Do they know a game addict or what=)

Hubby got that bullet blender setup that you see advertised on tv, he is pumped, he cant wait to make stuff like guacamole, salsa, asparagus soup and smoothies.

The home in general got that tv flogged food storage stuff that is in its own carousel - all the same sized lids, and there are 3 sizes of container. It will make the whole gladware/ziploc/rubbermaid situation go away. We have lids for no containers and containers with no lids, which will soon go into the garbage along with the nearly-departed old blender=)

LIONsob and I got our son and future d-i-l a half dozen big fluffy towels and an 18 pack of wash clothes, the towels are screaming red. They each get a wrist watch and a gag gift each, for son an Everybody Pees coloring book I printed out and a set of crayons. For future d-i-l a stuffed little rat dog that you squeeze to hear him say I live to love you, please don’t break my heart.

My great nephew 3 gets a kid sized folding camp chair, a 6 oz set of boxing gloves (Oh I am an eeeevvvviiillllll Auntie) a Sponge Bob Square Pants book, a set of trucks and a 100 count set of large duplo blocks, a floding basket to keep his loot in and 13 child size plastic hangers for his clothes ( I shall teach him to say No wire hangers ever Mommy to his Mother.

Niece and Nephew in law get several sets of plastic hangers, it’s what they said they needed.

Sis in law gets a country apples and spice cream and sugar set with apple spiced tea included.

I gave the LIONsob a tin of butter candy and a wireless card for the wireless modem and his laptop.

LIONsob got me a large framed print of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, a ring, and a watch. Son and future d-i-l got LIONsob and I each a large coffee mug, candy, and two gift cards, one for Kroger and one for Wal-mart and I got a small snow globe with an angel in it, a mix in a jar oatmeal raisan cookies.

And dinner is at his house so all I have to make is sweet potatos with crushed pineapple, a german chocolate cake, banana pudding a huge tropical fruit salad, a relish tray and an apple dip and sliced apple tray. (My apple dip is yummy btw, cream cheese and caramel ice cream topping blended together. ) But I don’t have to do the dishes.

Yep all in all I made out well.

So far, the only things I have in my possession are a small four cup coffee maker, two bookcases, and a box of assorted meats and cheese from Swiss Colony (I’m wearing the bow it was wrapped in as a headband right now) that I got from an acquaintance and his girlfriend. I’m not sure if they were Christmas presents per se, or just gifts that they happened to give me on Christmas Eve. Either way, I’m happy with them. Especially the bookcases.

In addition to that, I’m expecting a check of indeterminate amount from my dad and stepmom in the next few days, the Garden State DVD (BEST PRESENT EVER) that my mom pre-ordered for me on amazon.com, something from my older sister, a CD I’ve been waiting on for a month or two from Silver Fire (maybe shaming her in this post will make her send it to me already. Or make sure I never get it, one), and whatever it is that Gr8Kat bought me for tomorrow.

Not a bad haul considering I’ve not been able to buy anyone anything due to being out of work with an injury. I feel kind of guilty about some of it but I’ll make it up to them and a couple of other friends eventually. I love giving presents.

I got a Conair Foot Spa!! I’m so happy! I work on my feet all day and now I have a foot spa waiting at home for me. It has a water warmer feature and 3 little massage doohickies! I also got a Wal-Mart gift card (amount unknown,) a big bottle of Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur, YUM!) and assorted scented candles. With my Christmas bonus I bought myself a new vacuum cleaner.
I got my dad a car jumpstart/battery charger thing and a new wardrobe at VanHeusen’s. (The outlet is closing.)
For my carpool driver I bought a coffee maker and a pound of dark roast. (Guess who is always running late in the morning?)
And God gave us Houstonians snow for Christmas!!!

We had our “Christmas” yesterday morning, since my mom and dad wanted to get my sister’s kids back to their own parents for today. I got my niece and nephew Harry Potter magic/science kits – a different kit for every kid – and I gave my mom and dad a box of German brandy-filled chocolates.

Some of my coolest presents received:

  • The boxed DVD set of all Ed Wood’s movies (thanks, Mom!)

  • A trip to NY for the musical version of Monty Python’s Holy Grail this spring (from my best friends; this is also my upcoming birthday present)

  • A little snow globe of the hobbits hiding under a tree root, with a huge, mail-glove claw hovering over them.

  • My other nieces, who were not here, sent me paintings they had done themselves, nicely framed.

My sister is also supposed to be sending me something hand-made and neat, but it didn’t arrive yesterday, so I’ll have to wait until at least Monday to find out what it is.

I got some DVDs, a few CDs, Myst IV (which I totally don’t have time to play, but whatever), and an iPod! My brother got one too and we are much with the squee. I do hope mine isn’t one of the broken ones or whatever.

I scored HALO2 (awesome) and some of the Roger & Gallet soap I dig, plus the traditional fire-related ornament.

I gave Mrs. Jockey a shopping spree at her favorite cosmetic place. MAC. Must be good, because she was WAY happy

Lots of books, lots of tea, a huge cat mug, **Galaxy Quest ** & **His Girl Friday ** dvds, chocolate, froo froo smelly girly crap, and a 250 GB external hard drive.
