What did you get for Christmas?

Let me see your loot, man!

My daughter gave me an Emperor’s New Groove tree ornament, some makeup (that’s always fun), and a nice hardcover edition of The Haunting of Hill House. (Nice, that is, except for the two forewords, one of which baldly spoils the ending. What the fuck? I’m thinking of excising or blacking out those pages).

My mom gave me a blouse which skews a little elderly, but I might wear it…and a dress, which skews hideous. She bought it for herself without trying it on and later realized it was awful, so she started trying to pawn it off on friends but no one wanted it. She gave it to me knowing I’d be horrified, so had a good laugh at my efforts to be polite!
Here I am trying to pretend it might be okay with a belt.

Imgur

Nope.

Wrong belt – try Scotch!

I got a box of Turtles (the candy) from my wife.

Do you have a window where it would work as a curtain? :beers:

Even if the dress fit (it’s too big) it is ugh lee. Feel free to get rid of it.

I just want to point out that although it’s not the nicest looking frock, Dung_Beetle has a beautiful smile and enough self confidence to share the picture.

ETA: my daughter got me some really good coffee. I never told her I gave up coffee almost a year ago. My gf will enjoy it, though.

I got a beautiful sword cane, a 50 ounce beer stein with lid in the shape of the TARDIS, a bottle of 12 year old Special Reserve Tullamore D.E.W., a new rotary razor and a nice pair of black slacks.

My Wife and I tended towards “for us” with gifts. We really don’t do much re: gifts, if we want something we get it, so it can be difficult.

Anyway, about 3 months ago we lost power for 4 hours. Right at sunset. I lit up our oil lamps and it was good enough to play chess. But, one wick needed replacing and fuel was very low.

My Wife bought us two very nice new oil/hurricane lamps with extra wicks and oil. We played chess with just them that night. Was pretty cool. Oil lamps and fireplace and chess. A step back in time.

I bought us a new quilt for the bed, and some new PJ’s for her.

I got two bath sheets, half a dozen socks in a color I don’t wear, a track suit and slippers that don’t fit, and a bathrobe that does.

Also, an Amazon gift card, and a Best Buy gift card (with which I’m going to get a SiriusXM receiver installed in my car).

I bought my fiancée The Lyrics by Paul McCartney, some cookware for her sister’s boyfriend, and an Apple Watch for my daughter.

A bottle of The GlenDronach Revival 15 year scotch from my wife, a bottle of Bainbridge Battle Point whiskey from my SIL and bottle of Wild Turkey Longbranch from one of my grand daughters. My wife doesn’t know it yet but she also got me a new drill press. It’s suppose to arrive this Friday but with the current weather forecast, I would not be surprised if it is delayed.

Swoon!

Not got, but gave. DesertRoomie had a cuckoo clock that was lost in a fire a couple decades ago. It didn’t burn but the soot was impossible to remove. I got her a much better clock – she has a thing about bears.

She’d probably love this one:

Oh! and a very nice compliment from @kayaker.

A smile, a smooch and a hug.

Two boxes of chocolates!

(We had invited a friend, and her friend, to join us as it looked like their plans might fall through. Hubs bought these as gifts for them, had they turned up! Haha!

At least he was clever enough to buy the chocolates I love! )

Background: we bought a house several months ago and have been sloooooowly going through boxes and trying to get things put away, organized, and otherwise situated in their permananet spots. We have not had much storage in any of our previous homes so a lot of stuff has been living permanently in boxes, totes, and the like – 20 year’s worth. One of our goals this week is to put away stuff in the garage and get it organized. We’ve been planning this for months.

My wife has been hinting for weeks that my gift will involve borrowing her father pickup (?), my parents (??), and me being at work so she can coordinate people to help unload it (???). My guess was she was going to get me a drill press as that’s the only large item I’ve indicated that I’ve been wanting.

Christmas morning arrives and she takes me to the garage. Squirreled away in the back corner are two huge boxes: a two-piece Craftsman tool chest. 72" wide by 60-something" tall. Multiple drawers with a big compartment on the top for power tools. It even has a built-in power strip in the top to keep a battery charging station. All my tools have been living in plastic totes for years, now I finally have a place to put them all! Squee!

I also got a heated lap throw because apparently I’m getting old, a jar of peanut-butter pretzels, and some weird funky electric screwdriver which will probably never get used.

My parents gave us some custom-crafed ceramic pieces from a local artist, the same one that did a shotglass for @Labdad a few years ago. Two spoon rests for the kitchen a wind chime that seems too fragile to actually be used.

I love it all. But I still want a drill press.

@Dung_Beetle, just want to say you look exactly as I’ve pictured you, ya cutie patootie

I thought I responded to this thread (maybe there’s another gift related one?); I got two kittens and an air fryer.

Thank you! and yeah, you made out like a bandit. Must’ve been good this year. :smiley_cat:

Do not utilize simultaneously.

In addition to our families, we have a couple of friends we exchange gifts with. I received marzipan, REI gift cards toward new boots, a Powell’s Books card, money toward Audible, a donation toward a future writing retreat, a finger labyrinth, several books*, a silver necklace chain, book-themed jewelry, Jon Batiste’s album “We Are,” a nightgown, boot socks, hiker’s lambs wool, book-themed scarf, suet, a handmade votive, and handmade salve. Also, a smattering of cat toys.

*Gastro Obscura, Explorers’ Sketchbooks, Aphrodite and the Rabbis, Art of the Middle Ages, The Arctic: A Guide to Coastal Wildlife, We Make the Road by Walking, Winterkill, The Dawn of Everything, The Field Guide to the Birds of New Zealand (some are joint gifts to me and my lovely wife).

@Dung_Beetle, you look lovely no matter what you wear.

I love it! My folks had a similar one when I was a kid (my dad’s sister went to Europe on her honeymoon and brought back this cuckoo clock). But I love this particular one…and I have a thing for bears, too!

On edit: I didn’t get anything. No biggie. Usually I go to my older sister’s for Christmas Day, but we can’t bring our clingy dog (who gets hysterical in the car – not a good thing for an hour long car ride), and my niece, her hubby and son moved to Washington state earlier this year, my nephew went to his girlfriends’ parents’ for the day, so my younger sister and I just stayed at home. Oh, and my brother lives in Costa Rica. We adults pretty much agreed to not give gifts. I usually bring a little something to my sister’s because her “present” to us is the dinner. I have gifts for my 3-yr old nephew but things got crazy (I was diagnosed with A Fib and had to have tests during the week prior to Christmas)), and I haven’t mailed them yet.

So…another covid Christmas???
