So.....what did you get?

Gave: a whole bunch of DVDs, including every last film Jackie Chan’s been in, this side of Around the World in 80 Days, and one name sign with the words “Engineering Department” etched into it in both English and Chinese

Got: Breakfast cereal, macaroni and cheese (which is what i’m having for dinner, tonight  ), well-wishes, a round-trip ticket to Detroit (which is actually much better than it sounds, all *Kentucky Fried Movie * references aside), and a pair of shrimp in wax with Chinese sayings etched into it (not really sure if there’s some significance to that).

If we’re counting gifts to self, multiply the number of DVDs by about 10 (what can i say? They’re cheap, out here) and throw in a guitar (one that I’m still considering trading in for a bass, by the way…).

bamf

We didn’t do much in the way of presents this year (seeing as I travelled 6,000 miles to see my parents who have just moved to France, this wasn’t surprising). I did by myself a couple of neat hings, if that counts. Let’s see

I’ve always wanted a wine refrigerstor, but have nowhere to put one. Until I found this.

A couple of DVDs. From the obligatory to the just plain bizzare.

The hubby and I got a much-needed Digi Cam! We really needed one.

I got a fuzzy pink sweater and my mother gave me an Anne Geddes calendar to remind me to giver her a new grandbaby this year. ::sigh::

I didn’t even know they MADE an *Army Of Darkness * Card Game…

My parents got me a digital camera. I’ve been wanting one for a really long time, so I’m thrilled with it. I spent the entire day snapping pictures.

My sister got me one of those cute sweaters with the matching scarf (believe it or not, we’ve had sweater weather here in Florida for the past week). I plan to wear it when I go back to work next week. I’m sure my supervisor will lecture me for being too negative about the temperature in the office (most days it’s in the low 60s).

I have to say I was really impressed with my brother’s gift. Or gifts, I should say. He got me volume one of the Wolf’s Rain DVD set and volume one of the Shutterbox manga. He decided to get the manga after I commented last summer that I’d like to read it. However, he couldn’t remember the name, so he went to a manga Web site and read through dozens of plot summaries until he found the one that I’d described to him. Then he went to about 20 different book stores to find it. I’m touched that he put so much effort into my gift.

A modest haul compared to some others here, but no real clunkers:

DVDs: Spielberg’s Duel, Hitchcock’s The Birds

–Tabletop Skittles game!!! Had this when I was a kid, been pining after a new one for years.

–An R/C model car with three interchangeable bodies (RX-8, Mini Cooper, Porsche 911; closest I’m likely to ever come to having any of them)

–A rather fetishistic packet of various multi-purpose tools

–A good-quality address book (going old-school since my goddam Handspring Visor lost all my addresses)

–Crabtree & Evelyn Sandlewood soaps (I’m comfortable with my guyness, so I don’t mind getting stuff like this at all)

–Coupla new towels, good quality (likewise)

All in all, A most satisfactory conclusion to what, unfortunately, was a rather boring holiday this year.

I also got a fondue set with guide book; and a big jar of fancy salted nuts.
I gave or helped contribute to:

slippers, robe, tie, belt, calendars, shower gel, bracelets, a fire safe, tea, soap, and other gooey scented stuff.

World of Warcraft
A pair of Garmin Rino GPS walkie talkies - now I can’t get lost in the woods!
XBOX Live wireless headset so I can talk trash while I get my ass kicked playing Halo 2 mulitplayer
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
Slippers - eh, I asked for them
A couple of lamps
DVDs including LOTR ROTK EE
A bunch of Halo magnets - now the Covenant and Master Chief battle it out on my fridge.
2 GB of RAM
Nintendo DS

The only gift that counts this year came from my friend. Last night she handed me a copy of Harold & Maude. Years ago we worked at a movie theater. She was with me when I recreated (without warning) the hand scene from the movie in front of our coworkers. She will attest that people really CAN turn white as a ghost from fright. Meg, I LOVE YOU!

Not sure why I’m responding to a thread that will probably be ending soon, but I felt like I should share at least one thing:

The Coolest Jacket Ever

That is all.
