So what do we impeach him for?

S> ection 4

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session.

It sounds like he is back in as soon as one or the other of the house or senate fails to get a 2/3 vote.

In a way, yes.

The minute a loyal cabinet member lets Trump know who in his cabinet is plotting against him, Trump would fire all the disloyal cabinet members (except for Vance, who Trump cannot fire).

Knowing this, Vance, and the disloyal cabinet majority, have to hold no more than a single meeting on this, voting Trump out before anyone can leave the room (or send DJT a text message).

As for 2/3 in the House and Senate, if most of his cabinet toadies have turned against him, he already would, I think, be unpopular among congressional Republicans. 2/3 would theoretically be easy.

The real problem is the question of what he could be impeached, or otherwise removed for, that most Republican politicians find unacceptable. It doesn’t matter what the Democrats want him out for, because the problem is bringng Republicans on board.

Consider this nuclear war threat:

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

If that doesn’t get you thrown out on your keister, what would?

To answer my last question, nothing plausible! In theory, if Trump gets hit on his head and wakes up from the concussion as a confirmed progressive, there would be a cabinet majority to put Vance in. But then congressional Democrats might decide the Christian thing was to forgive our repentant president, denying Vance the 2/3 votes needed to stay in power.

What with all the crimes and misdemeanors committed, without and within, of gross malfeasance against procedural and constitutional norms … and the fact that it’s still less than a 6 to 5 and pick em chance of succeeding … don’t you think that if one of the Founding Fathers had proposed “You know, maybe what we are looking for here is just a simple, parliamentary style vote of No Confidence?”.

Part of the problem is that everyone is just so ACCUSTOMED at this point to Trump making grandiose threats he has no intention of following up on, that nobody takes them seriously anymore even when he’s threatening to start a nuclear war. I mean, this was what, the fourth time in the last month that he’s given Iran an ultimatum with a specific time limit, then backed down?

Classic case of the mentally-ill-80-year-old-manchild who cried wolf.

But what if he fires enough sane people and no one talks him out of it?

(I didn’t read the whole thread.)

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s threats to wipe out Iran, “a whole civilization,” ended the restraint that Democrats have mostly practiced when it comes to questions of removing him from office in his second term.

By the dozens, Democrats came out to say that Trump should no longer serve in the White House, either through the impeachment process or the 25th Amendment, which allows the vice president and the Cabinet to declare that a president is no longer able to perform the job.

But the bottom line:

Still, Democratic leaders and many moderates in the party have steered clear of endorsing impeachment, and any attempt to remove Trump from office is doomed to fail so long as Republicans control Congress.

My bold.

Obviously.

Here’s what I wonder: if the Dems did take back both houses, would they or would they not have the intestinal fortitude to proceed, not with just impeaching him (again), but removing him from office?

(Maybe that has been covered in this thread…)

That’s still going to take a number of Senate Republicans to achieve. And I don’t think that’s ever possible. These R Senators will never, ever, ever convict one of their own. For anything. Ever.

Sadly, I have to agree.
:frowning:

I wouldn’t be so sure, if conditions really really really go to shit, some number of republican senators may let themselves be convinced that the best way to distance themselves from the ongoing disaster is to collaborate in the removal of DJT from office.
Of course the conditions necessary for such a thing to come to pass are horrific enough that it may be better if DJT finishes his term.

Agreed. Perhaps, perhaps they might just find the moral courage if Trump appears with Putin, wearing his underwear on his head, declares himself King and orders nuclear strikes on Ottawa, London and Paris.

Perhaps.

That would be a best case scenario (assuming the nukes are not launched), the conditions I had in mind were economic and military, for example a depression combined with a quagmire in Iran with tens or hundreds of U.S. troops dying every day.

Nah…this will just be the new presidential portrait and soon everyone will be wearing their underwear on their heads.

The Blackadder option

That leaves us with JD. BUT if we take over the house there will be a new speaker. And they are third in line.

So impeach Trump and JD, and Bob’s your Uncle.

If his impeachment takes longer than a week, I’ll be pissed. Like I have said. We impeach him for everything. Prison would be good too, but ain’t gonna happen.

Impeachment is not the same as removal from office.

Trump can be impeached until the cows come home, but this is the bottom line:

Considering a lot of MAGA folks wore diapers outside of their clothes because their leader wore a diaper, this is probably true.

This isn’t fatalism-This is realism. Sometimes crime pays, and sometimes the bad guys get away with it…especially when so many people believe that there is some sort of magical balancing force that will do the hard work for them.

This is just ridiculous. The traitor is making war for insider trading.

And nobody in congress is doing a bloody thing about it. I suspect many are in on it.

Technically true, but in common parlance, Impeachment does mean removal from office.
