So what do we impeach him for?

And the members of such a body would agree to close examination of their financial situations—both before and after the vote. (Not just immediately after, but months or even years after.)

The Framers didn’t reckon on the power of an Imperial President to bribe a Cabinet into unshakeable ‘loyalty.’ Any alternative body that could make the 25th practicable would have to be shown to be, basically, incorruptible.

I think if the Congress tries to create another body by law, then it would need either a presidential signature or enough supporters to override a certain veto. That dog ain’t gonna hunt.

When the 25th was written, I bet the authors thought that the cabinet would be people who were selected for their integrity and expertise and not for being slavishly loyal to an evil president. The 25th isn’t going to bail us out, impeachment and conviction is not going to happen, the Sweet Angel of Death (a natural one, not assassination) is our only hope.

I was speculating about the only way it could work in some future administration. And passage of that kind of bill requires exempting the current officeholder.

In this administration, impeachment is more practical (and only practical if Trump’s approval levels are clearly less than half among Republicans.) And he then has to be impeached for something the Republicans do not like. Unless the Democrats get close to 2/3 in the Senate, they are little more than interested observers. 30 percent inflation might get the needed Trump polling collapse. 30 percent overall, not just gasoline. Trump’s policies are so inflationary that you might think we’ll get there. But Trump seems too lucky for this to happen (maybe because the U.S. economy has long-term strengths countries which has seen that kind of inflation lack).

By all reasonable measure there are plenty of tools already in place… cabinet is supposed to be approved by congress, and congress are supposed to be clever people with integrity.

If the current safeguards fail, will it really make a difference to add another?

I still have a vague hope that the ballot box might help in some fashion.

Sort of depends on how much the GOP can rig the election (no mail in ballots etc.)

But they might shoot themselves in the foot as they are prone to do. If that happens, we are gonna run out of ketchup.

Certainly flipping the House and Senate would help tremendously. But there are still 1007 days until the calendar put an end to this idjit and what he can do by EO even without a lapdog Congress.

He’ll start another war and claim that you can’t replace a ‘wartime’ president. Just watch.

“From your lips to Gods Ear.”

Ehh… I still want him to witness what he has done being torn down.

People celebrating in the streets when he is removed, and hopefully imprissoned.

Oh, he won’t understand, and blame it on others. Narcistic sociopaths are that way. But I want him to see it.

And 50 secretaries of state will say “Cool” and hold elections anyway.

Hope so. And his name will NOT be on the ballet.

Trump will claim that that’s rigging an election. Whatever asshole.

Abe Lincoln and FDR both held elections in wartime. No way would this work. Even the Supreme Court would vote 7-2 to overturn such a notion.

Oh, I know, but Donnie doesn’t. And I have zero faith in SCOTUS. Trump will throw so manny wrenches in the works that might just fuck it up. Mid-terms are a test. But I think we have those.

Now now, no need to bring Timothy Chalamet into this. :winking_face_with_tongue:
