Thanks! I’m going to have to drive down to the head shop and give one of those brands a try.
I did up until a couple of months ago. I had just got a fifty dollar order of assorted Wilsons Menthol Plus and S.M. Blue and McChrystals (
Ooops, sorry. the baby smacked the enter key. Anyway…
I did up until a couple of months ago.
I had just got a fifty dollar order of assorted Wilsons (Menthol Plus and S.M. Blue are my fave WoS flavours [not flavors…it is an English snuff after all]) and McChrystals (Raspberry and Original can’t be beat), in the mail, and as is customary with a fresh order, I spent the night shoveling mounds of the stuff up my nose.
Well it just so happened a nasty assed flu bug had taken up residence inside me, and a few hours after getting all snuffed out I was puking and shitting and sweating
(WTF, I didn’t do anything to submit my unfinished post…I swear to god, and i don’t even believe in the guy!)
So to make a long story short, I was down for two weeks with that damned flu, and now, everytime I try to sniff even the smallest pinch, it brings back memories of my wonderful flu experience.
I’m in the mood for a pinch, so maybe after I post this, I’ll see how it goes.
One word of advice…stay away from WoS’ Royal George, unless sniffing vomit flavored coffee-mate mixed with baby powder is your thing.
Jesus, you guys are nuts. I’m far from a teetotaler when it comes to anything under the sun, but snuff? Powdered, snortable tobacco? I’ve tried it, but the allure of that one passes me by.
Good luck! I know how hard aversions to things incidentally related to being sick can be to break – I couldn’t eat chili for years after a particularly nasty case of gastroenteritis. Perhaps you could start with a blend you don’t normally sniff, to lessen any unpleasant associations?
Hmmm… I really like floral aromas… Now I’m tempted to spend 3.5 bucks just to see how bad this blend really is…
What blend did you try? Some varieties (such as Irish High Toast or anything made in America) are much more hardcore and offputting than the moist, fruity English blends.
Well for one thing, the nicotine buzz is nice. It’s not at all like the nic buzz from smoking. I like the burn too. That might sound weird, but it’s kind of like the satisfying burn you get after downing a shot of Jagermeister or something, but most important of all, its fun to snort stuff Not that you actually snort snuff.
yBeayf-I had a sniff of WoS S.M. 500 a little while ago. I enjoyed it, but I’m still not ready to go full out yet. The ick factor is still there.
BTW:to answer the OP, I roll my own using cheap ass Golden Harvest menthol. 12 bucks a pound and it lasts almost a month.
I had an Economics profressor who claimed that all cigarettes and all beers tast just about the same. He was trying to make some point about product differentiation. While I don’t smoke or drink (much), I had my doubts, and I wanted to protest, but I was just simply tired, at the end of the lecture. I can tell the difference between beers, but what about cigareetes? To what degree of nasty? Is one degree of buring ash in your lungs better than another?
Good question, I’m not entirely sure. It was definitely an American one, as a matter of fact, there was only one kind available at the drug store when I bought it. I was simply amazed that it was even for sale, as I’d never encountered anyone who’d even tried it, so I got it on a lark. It was in a large, salt shaker sized metal container, and the experience was akin to inhaling a pinch of rancid cinnamon. It caused massive bouts of sneezing and I had tears shooting out of my eyes. It made my throat feel like I’d been huffing a campfire.
So me, being the rocket scientist that I was, figured that lots of things aren’t so great the first time, waited a day or so and tried it again. Same situation. The can of snuff was retired to the garbage and so ended my experiment with that stuff. How one would pick that up as a habit amazes me.
I like to have a Davidoff cigar once in a while but my lungs aren’t really up to it anymore, what with all the residual hasish in there. I also quite enjoy smoking pipe tobacco but I haven’t been using that long enough to know which types I enjoy… any recommendations?
Ok, you probably tried Levi Garrett. I’m not surprised you found it unpleasant – that’s probably as dry and powdery a snuff as you’ll ever find. Most people who use it are little old ladies who dip a stick into it and then use it to rub the inside of their mouth.
Most English snuffs are scented, and not dry and dusty, but moist and fluffy, and are much more pleasant to sniff. Stuff like Levi Garrett and Irish Dry High Toast are for old guys with nasal passages of steel.
The major selling point for me, honestly, is that you can lay down a fat line on the table at Denny’s and do your best Uma Thurman impression: “God damn! I said god damn!” And when the cops come you can offer them some.
Is it anything like cigars or shisha?
I’m not sure if you’re trying to bait someone here, but there’s a definite difference between cigarette tastes–not to mention that there are a lot of flavored cigarettes that obviously taste different from the addict brands.
My ranking of nicotine effect from various forms of tobacco:
The highest and most intense, of course, is American oral snuff, simply because of all the alkali crap they put in there to liberate the nicotine.
Nasal snuff has an almost instantaneous effect, but because the amount of tobacco being used is very small, the effect is pleasant but not that strong, and doesn’t last very long, either.
Cigarettes are middle-of-the-road in both intensity and quickness.
Pipes and cigars have the most nicotine by volume, but take the longest to take effect, though a big high-nicotine cigar or pipe has the potential to give just as intense a nicotine buzz as oral snuff.
Blond Lebanese (Makes me weak in the knees)
Just wanted to pop in and mention that I just tried one of the S.M. blends for the first time (S.M. Gold), and HOLY FUCKING CRAP there’s a lot of menthol in there. It was like snorting cayenne pepper, except cold instead of hot. Sir, I salute your nasal passages.
Marborlo menthal lights…
wow I am so totally-un-cultured
Yes, different cigarettes have different tastes and flavors. It’s due to a couple of factors, such as a difference in the tobacco used, whether or not there is a filter, the filter composition, and the age of the cigarette. At least, those are the factors a Bensen & Hedges representative told me matter.
