So What Is Your Cell Phone Ring Tone?

Mine goes rrrriinng.

Standard vanilla phone-ringing sound. Like phones used to make back when they actually had a little bell in them that rung. I’m a traditionalist.

Mine’s the Arrested Development theme, sans Ron Howard’s introductions. (My text message notification is “Annyong!”)

“Under Pressure” Queen.

Currently it’s the intro to Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.” For a long time it was the “Jennnny I’ve got your number” part of “867-5309/Jenny” (yep, that’s my name), but I switched to Stevie a few months ago. I expect to keep “Sir Duke” for a while: it’s one of my all-time favorite songs, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner for my ring tone.

I make my own using Audacity.

For text messages and IMs – which I get way more often than phone calls – it’s a sonar ping sound that came with my BlackBerry.

Same here.

I keep mine on vibrate all the time. I know that no matter what fabulous piece of music or hilarious sound I could put on, it would be ruined by association with phone calls. I absolutely despise being called and having to answer the damn thing.

VIIIIIIIIIIIIRUS ALERT!!!
by Weird Al Yankovic.

Oddly apropos given recent news events.

Yeah, it’s obnoxious, and it usually startles me into cussing when it goes off. But there’s no danger of me wondering whether it’s my phone that’s ringing, when I’m in a crowd.

Nice! My first ringtone ever (beside the default) was the regular music from Super Mario Bros. The one that plays on the first stage.

My current tone is the theme to Miami Vice by Jan Hammer.

The Hey Hey song by Gary Glitter.

It’s called Rock & Roll Part II.

My generic ringtone: Meira Frelsi - it’s so dorky it’s fun

Parents and siblings: Boten Anna - my brother got to pick that one.

A few others: The A-Team theme - cause it rocks!

What he said.

I had a business that failed about 4 years ago… I was sick and tired of hearing my phone ring, so I learned to keep it on vibrate. It didn’t do anything to reduce the number of calls, but I sure didn’t have that “Gawddammit!” moment every time I heard the damn phone.

For general calls, it’s “What Happens Tomorrow” by Duran Duran.
For my bestest friends it’s the chorus of “Beautiful” by Joydrop.
For my mother, saint that she is, it’s an instrumental Amazing Grace.
For work, it’s “Jump in De Line” by Harry Belefonte. (Shake, Senora maybe? The song from Beetlejuice.)
For unidentified callers with no caller ID, it’s Barber’s Adagio for Strings. I chose that because I don’t answer those calls, so they ring a while before they go to voicemail and I love that piece of music, so I don’t mind listening to it as it goes through the ring cycle.

From 3:00 - 3:30

Ha! That’s how my phone rings when my best friend calls. The one with month-old twins, a 2 year old, and a 5 year old. I figured it was appropriate.

When my best (male) friend calls, it’s Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive.” (He rides a motorbike)

When everyone else calls, it’s the Killers “All These Things That I’ve Done.”

Default - “Hanging On the Telephone” - Blondie

Wife - “Denise” - Randy and the Rainbows

Students - “Teacher” - Jethro Tull

I wanted a plain ring. My phone didn’t come with one. The closest I could find is a sort of fading, echoing ring. Somehow, I assigned a musical tone to my “friends” category, but I rarely get calls from non-family, so I couldn’t tell you what the tone is.

I can’t believe my freebie Nokia doesn’t have a plain ring.

My daughter and son-in-law have a different musical interlude for each caller - SIL’s mother is announced by the Munster’s theme…

My default tone is “First Call” (usually but incorrectly known as “Call To Post”) which is the bugle call that accompanies racehorses when they get on the track.

My oldest (argumentative) sister is the “Itchy and Scratchy” theme (“They fight, they bite…”).
My middle sister is “No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn”(Beastie Boys). Guess where she lives.
The funniest one is that for my overly loquacious friend - it’s “You Talk Too Much” by Run-DMC.

Banana Boat Song by Harry Belafonte.
