So What Is Your Cell Phone Ring Tone?

General: the song of the Northern Cardinal
mr. bink: “I love my man, I’m a liar if I say I don’t” by Billie Holiday
my mom: “Oh the telephone is ringing, is that my mother on the phone” from the Police
work: the opening of “For the Love of Money” (the Utopia version)
my brother: “Oh the boys with cars want motorcycles, and the boys with motorcycles want cars” by the Shaggs
My friend Greg, and my friend Joe if he ever gets a cell phone: “Java” by Al Hirt
My friend Sharon: the beginning of “International Feel” by Todd Rundgren
etc.

Brilliant.

I have an old-fashioned phone ring. But I think about using the chorus from “Hey, Bulldog” (chorus starts at :52)

I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know how to do it. Plus, the one song I want more than any other, to have when my husband calls, apparently is not available. We went to the Verizon place and I said I’d like a song for my ring tone, and the guy said, “Oh, we have 700,000 songs available,” or some ridiculously high number, and I told him the song and he looked it up with this big smug grin which dripped right off his face. I have the CD, but I don’t know how to download it, and if I have to spend $30 for software just to transfer one song to my phone, fuck it.

What kind of phone have you got?

Back when I had a phone that I could program ringtones into via keypress, I had the Bubble Bobble theme.

If you’re not familiar with this NES classic… It loops the same theme for 99 levels, then 12 secret levels, then you get the boss theme, then you get “this is not a real ending” and go through the 99 levels again with the same original theme, then it’s still playing for another 12 secret levels, and then finally back to the boss theme again. So, counting the bosses as levels, the main theme loops for 222/224.

I miss that ol’ brick of a phone sometimes.

The generic one for everyone: “Birdhouse In Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants.

For my wife: “Redneck Woman” by Gretchen Wilson

For certain people I’m not very fond of: “The Freaks Come Out At Night” by Whodini.

La Marseillaise

And what song is it? Surely this is possible.

I’m using the intro to “The Wanting Comes in Waves” by the Decemberists. Before that, it was a fanfare from Shostakovich’s score for this film version of Hamlet.

Who Are You, by The Who.

And, yes, I had it before CSI.

Generic: The Hampster Dance
My girls from work: Hey, Baby, Que Paso. Texas Tornadoes.
My BF: I’m Still A Guy. Brad Paisley
My Ex: White and Nerdy. Weird Al
My BFF: Crazy Bitch: Buckcherry

School’s Out by Alice Cooper, of course. The live version. I’ve had it on all the phones I’ve owned. Some of 'em were the really lame Moto Mixer version though.

Ha, awesome. Mine is currently the Doctor Who theme song.

Mine is the Hockey Night in Canada theme song. My daughter is horrified every time it rings. She thinks it’s embarrassing but it doesn’t sound as dorky as you’d think!

It’s a Motorola Razr, not sure the exact model. And it’s “Heart” by Rockpile. I have the CD.

You can transfer an mp3 file or (.wma) directly to the phone from your computer using the USB cable that should have come with it.

With some Motorola phones, you need Motorola PhoneTools to do it, but if your Razr is V3 or later I don’t think it’s necessary.

Would you like to switch user names? Sorry, but the above is gibberish to me. I’m pretty sure my phone did not come with a cable, but in any case I don’t have an mp3 file or know how to get one, and I have never heard of a .wma. And as I said above, if I have to buy software to get one ring tone, I won’t do it. It’s a racket. I told the guy at the phone store I wanted this one song and one song only, and he told me he could download it for me right there from the bazillion songs available. He was lying.
