Isn’t the Freelander the one that’s basically a Ford? Or have they Ford-ised the Disco too now? Not that it’s a bad thing in terms of reliability, though. Early Discoveries and certainly early Freelanders were utter crap.
And I don’t think I need to profess my love for the Defender. What a fantastic car.
Too bad they’re too expensive over here, and too limited for everyday use. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if I had a garage to put it in, but alas, one parking permit per apartment, so one car that has to do it all. Not surprisingly, it’s not a Defender.
We currently have an '88 Acura Legend. We’d love a Honda Civic hybrid, but we’re thinking about having another kid, and the car is just too small for 2 car seats. So, after carefully studying our car issue of Consumer Reports, we’re getting either a Volkswagen Passat, or a Honda Odyssey. It all depends on whether we decide to go the minivan route or not. We seem to be leaning towards the VW though.
I really want a convertible. But it needs to have a real back seat, and cost under $30K. I think I’m limited to (i) used Saab 9-3, (ii) a used Volvo C70, or (iii) a new or used Chrysler Sebring convertible. Based on my family’s history with Chrysler products, that option is right out. The Mercedes CLK is great, but they’re still north of $35,000. Between the Volvo and the Saab, I’m leaning towards the Saab – mainly based on looks.
Juanita, I know how you feel. But we cannot justify a third car, so I must be content to drive by that D90 and drool…
And the new Disco isn’t exactly a Ford. They had a hand in it, but it’s not as bad as we were all afraid of. A little more power than the Series IIs, but not enough so you’d notice.
Yeah Coldie, the Freelander is a waste of good metal. Shame. We almost bought one until we really read the specs. Hell, my dog wouldn’t fit in the back!
You would love this Defender, Coldie, it’s almost exactly the one we talked about before, only it’s a stick. I know how you loath automatics! This thing is relatively inexpensive for the miles, but we… just… can’t…
