The ONLY shorts guys should avoid are: Republican golfer shorts (those really tacky shorts that Republicans wear when playing golf) and those shorts that look like Dockers (aka Dad shorts)

Plaid? Really? I saw a dude wearing plaid shorts last week and he stuck out like a sore thumb. I had to look and then I had to look away because it hurt my eyes.

The last time I said this on the SDMB, I got jumped all over and accused of never having been anywhere warm, etc. but my opinion hasn’t changed: I think shorts look stupid on adults of any sex, unless you’re actually working out.

I don’t personally wear jean short because they seem kind of illogical to me - if I want to be cool by wearing shorts, then I want a lighter fabric than denim. Having said that, I don’t see anything wrong with wearing jean shorts provided they’re not too tight or too short. I can’t imagine thinking anything at all about a guy wearing normal jean shorts and I’m pretty surprised by how against them people here are. Maybe it depends on whereabouts you live?
There are lots of summer fashions I find stupid and ugly (those shorts that look like cut-off dockers, girls who wear racerback style tanktops with regular bras), but I pretty much expect to see adult men wearing shorts of some sort - and some of them look pretty damn good doing it!

I don’t know the name of the style, but I wear long shorts with extra pockets above the knee. I also wear high-tech golfing shorts.

Jorts are an abomination. If you wanna wear short jeans, you cut those suckers off. Heming is not allowed. Jesus Christ, leave the US of A for 25 years and find out that cut offs have gone out of style. I gotta rethink this moving back stuff.
