So what song did you dance to at your wedding?

It was 41 years ago. I don’t have a clue.

I don’t remember mine, but I was best man at my friend’s wedding and their 1st dance song was “A Whole New World” from The Little Mermaid. I’ll ask my wife today is she remembers ours. Yeah it was a long, long time ago.

I’ve never been to a wedding without dancing! (By wedding I mean reception, I usually avoid the church part).

They don’t have dancing at Japanese weddings so we didn’t do that. Which was fine by me because I’m a terrible dancer.

We danced to “This Will Be Our Year” by the Zombies.

That’s fascinating. I learned something new today. I feel like there’s a thread going for that on the boards.

I just listened to that last night, I was feeling very nostalgic.

“Have I Told You Lately that I Love You”, Van Morrison version.

Funny story about our married dance- my uncle, who I didn’t see very often since he moved out of state when I was young, showed up to the wedding with a video camera and volunteered to film the wedding and reception, which we were grateful for since we had only arranged for still photos.

Before the wedding my future wife had wanted to have some dance moves for our upcoming wedding, so we had taken ballroom dancing classes. At our married dance we showed off our moves— a couple spins, a dip, etc., no Fred and Ginger, but we were pretty good out there. I think we even got a bit of applause.

At some point later after we got back from the honeymoon, we sat back and played our wedding video. When it got to the point of the wedding dance, you could clearly hear my uncle say to my aunt “that’s what older childless couples do to fill up the time- they do things like take ballroom dancing classes.”

We weren’t that old when we married, like 30 and 36, and in fact the first of our eventual two children followed soon after. It is true we had less spare time for stuff like ballroom dancing classes after kids came along :smirk:

Dear god I hope the videos taken at mine and various other weddings I attended and danced at were lost in the floods of hurricanes.

Beatles song I forget which one.

I find most first dances cringy especially when the parent dances with the bride or groom. I leave the table and head for the bar.

Time In A Bottle by Jim Croce.
At my daughter’s wedding, I danced with her to The Hokey Pokey.

No dancing. We had a string quartet at our reception.

The Best is Yet to Come by Frank Sinatra.

I wanted At Last by Etta James but my wife vetoed it because it was too long.

I love the song and I really enjoy that version. You just never know what people are thinking do you? I wonder if your aunt agreed with him ?

Penguin by Christina Perri. Penguins have a special significance to us and this is a beautiful song.

I love that, it’s very original & so close to the heart for both of you!

Thank you. I love Perri’s voice and that song was just right for the occasion.

First dance was something traditional, forget what, but the REAL first dance (second) was This Must Be The Place, Talking Heads.

Feels Like Home by Randy Newman’s Faust, sung by Bonnie Raitt

Longer by Dan Fogelberg

Theme to “Around the World in 80 Days”
