So, what's going on in Catalonia?

The coalition that will form the new government has already been announced (in fact it was already announced yesterday, so I don’t know where does Bloomberg get its info, or rather, not get it) and it’s PSOE (social democrats) plus Unidas Podemos (populist left in their proposals and stalinist in their internal organization). Exactly the same one which didn’t spare us last Sunday’s elections because neither party wanted to admit their horse might be a bit shorter than that of the other guy.

“Catalanist party [insert actual acronym here] is the hinge party after the last elections” has been one of the leitmotivs of Spanish politics for the last 40 years. They’ve never been part of a governing coalition: they’ve been granted certain things in exchange for specific votes when the governing party needed additional votes to pass whatever (the national budget is a big one for this kind of negotiation), but they’ve never, in all those years of being “the hinge party”, been part of a national government.
