I heard yesterday on the radio that because Madonna’s new video was so “sinister,” that VH1 and MTV were only going to show it once at 10:30 last night. Unforuntately, my sprained neck was giving me trouble, so I went to bed before then.
You missed a video that was completely innocuous, in my mind. I was settling in to see something HORRIFIC and Tarantino-like.
What I saw was Madonna acting “violent” without any blood, strangulation, bullets, blades or blunt instruments.
The most obvious ‘violence’ was that she hit a couple of kids playing hockey with her car, shot a squirt gun at police, set a gas station on fire (which wasn’t even shown directly), stole a car, and eventually commited suicide (which was also not shown directly).
I love Madonna…LOVE HER…but I fear that this “banning” was a huge publicity stunt by everybody involved. I see worse stuff watching “Passions”

Yeah me too. I was expecting blood, gore…car crash galore! But come on, that’s IT?
It was a bit strange, yeah, but not graphically bad. I’ve definitely seen worse things on TV. This was one of the most harmless things ever.
The one disturbing thing is…the name of the song is What it’s Like for Girls…or is it What it Feels like for a Girl…? Yeah…er, life’s not quite like that for me. Well, maybe once a month, tops.
Well, Zoggie, while it WAS a bit over the top, I think the whole video was based on the one lyric from that song “You think it’s degrading to be a girl…”
Madonna said that she was portraying a pissed off, nihilistic woman who had probably been abused. I think that it was supposed to show what happens when the straw breaks the camels back…although showing that may have been more violent
I have a tendency to fall for bands or musicians who are constantly banned from MTV…dating all the way back to Girls on Film by Duran Duran.

Mmm. I really should start listening to lyrics when i watch music videos. I guess it’s more of an exaggeration, then…sort of designed to be over the top to “get” to people.
Actually it’s kind of fun to see a video that shakes things up. Most of the music videos nowadays seem so…bland. I’d like to see stuff that makes people think, just a little bit.
Still…I think I prefer “Justify My Love.” When it comes to gratuitious violence versus gratuitous sex, I prefer the latter.
