I’m curious as to what is happening with the clothes too.
It was clearly stated by the Republican campaign that they were NOT Palin’s clothes, and that the campaign would donate them after the election.
What I expect is that that statement will turn out to have meant, “Wait until all the facts are in,” and that the next statement - after it turns out that Palin and her family kept the clothes - will be, “That’s old news; who cares?”
The only thing that will keep me from believing this to be the typical bullshit (on, I’ll admit, a minor scale) that we’ve listened to for the last eight years is a very public accounting of what happens to those clothes.
Right. That’s one reason why I don’t give the Newsweek claim of extravagant spending much credit. That, and the fact that this accusation seems a bit over-the-top, and that it came entirely from unnamed sources. I’m not saying that it can’t be true; however, I do agree that it lacks credibility.
If we know how much was spent on the clothes, and whose credit cards they went on, we have records. If they auction the clothes and donate the proceeds to charity, I assume it will be a well-publicized event. If they give the clothes to the local Salvation Army, Goodwill or Savers, they will get a receipt from said second-hand shop. If they don’t have a paper trail on the clothing that were on the credit cards, or if the Palin family keeps the clothes and doesn’t declare them as income on their tax returns, the IRS should audit them come spring. It’s not a partisan issue, just simple law enforcement.
And so I presume you don’t have one then?
Let’s go into other wild theories-someone mentioned Bristol’s post-poned wedding-perhaps someone should check and see if any of the receipts were at bridal shops?
When I lend someone a CD, or a lawnmower, and they lose it, I reasonably expect them to replace the borrowed item, or reimburse me the cost of replacement.
Palin’s situation is no different. If she lost the clothes, she can give the RNC $170,000.
Obama wears Hart Marx (not sure of spelling), a Chicago based, union label series of suits. They are $1500 each, off the rack. He owns 6 of them. He owns 4 pairs of shoes.
Michelle Obama usually shops at J Crew and the Gap type stores. She wore a dress on The View from White House Black Market (brand name, nothing to do with the WH). It cost $145. I fully expect her to ramp up to coutre and designer stuff as first lady. I was not bothered by Palin’s choice of where to shop. I was bothered by the incredible amount of money she spent on clothes, period. And then her saying that it wasn’t “who she was” (really? a former pageant contestant not interested in clothes?) and that she would give them all back etc.
Here is a clip about the fashion choices of all the candidates and their spouses: clothingchoices
I find this surreal–that I am talking fashion/clothing on the Dope.
I lean slightly left and I do not care about her clothes at all. I do not care if she wears none. Wait, maybe I do care about that.
If the repubs actually went to Alaska to get back the clothes ,they are classless bastards.
