So, who else is working on Christmas this year?

I don’t think anybody’s posted a similar thread yet, or at least I couldn’t find it. Forgive me if there’s already one going somewhere.
I’m just curious about who else out there is going to be working during the holiday. What will you be doing and how does it affect your plans?

I’m actually at work right now and will be most of the day and evening on Christmas. I’m a reporter/photographer for a small daily newspaper. We have three reporters (counting me) that cover general assignments which basically means anything that’s not sports. The three of us rotate the holidays each year since somebody has to be around just in case something happens.
Christmas day I’ll be heading to a huge community Christmas dinner in a nearby town to do a feature story and photos for Tuesday’s paper.
As far as any impact on my holiday plans it’s not going to make too much of a difference. I’m off on Sunday since we don’t publish a Monday paper, though I have to be reachable by cell phone just in case there’s any major disaster that has to be covered on short notice. I’m going to see my parents on Sunday night and my wife will spend Monday with her parents. I’m just lucky to have a wife that’s extremely understanding about what I do and the crazy schedule that comes with it.
So, what about everybody else?

Yup. Call center, never closes. But the sort of call center it is (credit and debit card questions) pretty much guarantees that it’ll be dead. I’d be surprised if I get more than a call or two an hour. But the pay is double for a holiday and I can put up with some boredom for double pay. I just make sure I have plenty to read and this year I’m trolling the web for free videos to watch on my new video iPod.

Yup, I am working Christmas Day. It’s a gas station, so of course we will have customers. However, we cannot sell beer on Christmas, so it will probably not be as busy as Thanksgiving was. It doesn’t change my plans at all, as I am celebrating by myself.

I’m going to the office for a couple hours to muck about with some new software we want to start using. I don’t get an uninterrupted time during regular working hours.

I will be working about 4 hours on eve and on day. I don’t celebrate any holidays so I always volunteer for the double pay on holidays.

I’m working my usual 12 hour shift on Christmas Eve, which can be entertaining, as it’s usually pretty dead and the cops have a tendency to be goofy on their radios around 3 in the morning when there’s nothing else going on. Plus there’s usually all kinds of food and cookies lying around the communications room. The hard part is going to be getting off work Christmas morning and going straight to my Mom’s house for Christmas instead of going home and going to bed, but I’m off Christmas night.

I’ll be working Christmas day, and New Year’s Day for that matter, in case some ER doc or a radiologist wants to see what’s going on inside a patient.

Mr. SCL was scheduled to work Christmas Eve and be off Christmas Day, but the mother of one of the other nurses died unexpectedly yesterday and he’ll be working Christmas Day as well. It’s really not a big deal, we don’t have kids so he has usually volunteered to work Christmas Day if another nurse with kids wanted the day off.

Yup, AM and PM, but I’ll have the middle of the day to run out of town and see my dad/bro/sis etc.

I’m a petsitter, so it’s a busy time right now.

I’m working Christmas day.

I’ve been at my job for 9 years next month and I haven’t worked a major holiday in a couple of years so it’s my turn again. There are 65 or 70 nurses on my unit and we typically need between 15 or 20 to staff the whole day, so we don’t get assigned a holiday too much. I don’t mind and the kids are older now, so they are good with it, too. I’m hoping it will be a boring day, though!

Better a nurse than a patient! LOL

I prefer T-Day and C-day off. I don’t care about New Years as a holiday.

Luckily I got Christmas day off, but in exchange I had to work today (doing it right now actually) but now I’m sick as a dog, working a 10 hour shift, my 6th day in a row and the Dayquil’s not working ;_; Nothing worse than being sick and having to deal with people and phones.
