It’s almost 11am Christmas morning here in Tokyo. It should be a few hours past midnight for the Euro-dopers, and Christmas will be starting in the US in about 5 hours.
Anyway, I’m sitting at my desk at work right now, as is everybody else in my office since there’s no Christmas holiday in Japan. Is anyone else out there working on the 25th? If so, are you required to, or did you volunteer? Ticked off, or not a big deal? As for me, I’ve gotten used to coming to the office on Christmas, so it’s not really that big a deal for me (getting a week off for New Year’s doesn’t hurt, though ;)). Plus, my girlfriend and I already exchanged gifts on Sunday. I got a book (“Japanese Names”) a CD (“Breakfast in America”, by Supertramp) and some shirts. Oddly, this is exactly what I wanted.
And finally, are you working hard, or just passing time? Nothing much is going on here today, so I may just take off at lunch time and have myself a merry little Christmas at one of the bars downtown.
I am working the 24th - 29th. Working only bothers me because I would rather be in Colorado with my family or snuggling on the couch with my boyfriend. However the holiday pay will be VERY nice on my next paycheck. I work in 24/7/365 place as well. I am starting to get used to working on the holidays.
Not too much is happening at work, but I will still have to stay for my entire shift. I don’t mind having a slow night occasionally.
I’m working the 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift this evening, which means I will be working for two hours on Christmas Day. I do have Christmas Day night off, but only because I specifically requested it. My company also works 24/7/365, we never close. I have worked the last three or four Christmas Day’s in a row, so I decided to treat myself by taking tomorrow evening off.
Yeah, I’m on call for work. I’m not in the office, but I’m enslaved to a beeper that should anything go wrong on base (and I am on base right now), I have to answer to it. On behalf of 3500 others, I am technically the first line of defense for any sorta Engineering.
So, I am at work, but not exactly in the office.

I’m at work now. Being a hospital, naturally we’re always open so everyone has to work a holiday sometimes. Right now I’m the only one here in my department. The quiet is kind of nice. And I get off work at 7 a.m. and will have a nice little dinner with my family later so I’m pretty mellow right now.
I am at work and didn’t bring any food. Now I’m starting to get hungry and wondering WTF is open… Oh, and I only have one cigarrette left and I couldnt even find a gas station open on the way in… It’s gonna be a long night.
