So who's gonna play Star Wars Galaxies?

Got my copy on order - should receive it tomorrow. I’ve wanted to be Princess Leia since I first saw Star Wars at age 7, figure this is the best shot so far. Anyone else planning on playing? Wanna coordinate servers? There’s a server list here.

Hey! Wait a minute! How’d Scylla get a server? They must have read the blimp story…

I’ll be buying it today, after I trade in my old PS console for cash. Heh, must… play…Galaxies.

I’ll be a Twi’lek, Imperial Scout/Ranger on Naboo. This game looks marvelous. I think I’ll be on Intrepid server though, that’s where my PA is at…

I can’t decide whether I want my main char to start out as a scout or a marksman. I like the idea of scout evolving to creature handler… but marksman to smuggler looks cool, too.

Of course, I’ll also be starting an artisan and working her up to chef. Fun fun fun!

I’m not sure on servers yet. So far, I only know people on the beta server (Bria) and I don’t know if that server will remain a test server or if it’ll go live. Either way, I kinda want to start on a new, blank server.

Well, you can still unlearn your skills and try something new whenever.

btw, PA = player alliance? A guild/clan type thing? Correct?

I had been planning on it, but then I got addicted to Planetside.

I’m also worried it will be too much like Everquest but without magic. Camp - pull - kill and work your crafting skills up only to discover it takes far more effort to make something when you could have bought the darn thing much cheaper when you consider the time sucked up getting all the ingredients.

I have read too many Beta testers saying that the game is crap. Many have said that it makes Everquest seem non-repeataive, and for anyone that has played EQ, if SWg makes EQ look dynamic, SWG will be boring as heck.

The fact that the greedy monkeys wanted to charge me to beta their game (5 bucks for the CD, 5 bucks shippin), I have no desire to give them any of my money.

It will do well, if for no other reason that people who buy it because it has the SW name on it.

I haven’t heard much good on it, so I’ll be waiting to see how things play out.

Yeah that kind of ticked me off too. I was accepted into the beta weeks ago, but you have to pay 5 bucks even to download it. I know a lot of “beta testers” just do it for a chance to play early, but I actually think of beta testing as work. I’ll do it for free, but I won’t pay to do it.

Is bria finally down? It was spoosed to be shut off at 9am PDT today (the 25th) (and then I read 8am). But it was still up at 9:30 PDT. I wanted to be there at the end…

I DID make a char named “Tourist” and vistied the Lars homestead, Ben’s hut, and jumped into the Sarlacc pit…

I"m not sure if I’m going to play. But if I do it will be on Starsider (unoffical RP server). Not beacsue of the game, but because I don’t do much gaming in the summer.

I REALLY like that it is skill based so you can be a Marsman/Scout/Artisan.

PA= Player Association so yes guild/clan.

is/was Almack on Bria

Beta tester checking in here.

I’m not buying it to begin with.

It has it’s moments, and the team has good games in their history, but I just never got hooked.

Maybe if it really takes off, I’ll give it a shot in a couple of months.

I’m getting a copy tomorrow. I loved EQ but found the end game too time consuming. I’m a casual gamer, so I hope SWG is a good fit. I’ve always been a more social player and in EQ I prefered hanging around the Kelethin lifts playing with the newbs than waiting 4+ hours for a raid to start.

Well, I’m off to EB to pick up my Collectors Edition. See you on Starsider!

We’ve had like five of these threads. Would someone who’s playing it report back to us? When you get a chance, of course.

Got it, installed it, trying to register… along with 400K other people, I’m guessing. Registration is screwed… very slow, lots of errors. It’s also browser based, so you get 404 errors at various times and no refresh button, so you get to start all over when that happens. <sigh>

Guess I’ll try out Starsider, if I ever get in.

I’ll post a review (cringes and hides from GMRyujin, to whom she still owes a review from 2 months ago) after I play for a while.

Oh, and FYI: the registration process doesn’t work if you have cookies turned off. Of course, they don’t tell you this, I figured it out through trial and error.

I’m banging away at the servers trying to register. Not unusual for a MMORPG but I had high hopes that SOE would be given the resources to deal with a high visibility product like Star Wars…

I bookmrked http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/devtracker
found this message:

We have identified an issue with our hardware for the subscription servers and are in the process of fixing it. Please continue to try to log in, but if you have problems, expect there to be a significant performance increase within the next couple of hours.

I saw this helpful hint on the SOE boards. The Registration browser is IE based, so the shortcut keys work. Backspace = back button on your browser bar, so when you hit an error screen you can just backspace to the previous screen and try again.

Things don’t bode well when you can’t even sign up. “Here I am, take my money! No, you don’t want it?”
