It’s a small galaxy! I play on Scylla as an Master Artisan/Architect (only 1 skill box filled so far beyond the novice)/Merchant/Chef (just got this) named Zaffo Whatever. I KNOW you’ve even been in my shop in our player city of Oasis (halfway between Anchorhead and Mos Eisley).
What I’ve been doing is building houses like crazy and selling them for 15k, BUT if people promise to add on to our city, I cut them a 3k discount. I’d love to have you join as well Grary if you look to settle down. In addition, if anyone else wants to move to Scylla and have a place to live, I will cut the prices as well (tell me you’re from SDMB and the cost becomes 10k).
Wow, I hope that didn’t break board rules since it is an in-game kind of thing. I am just REALLY having a blast with it as I play a wheeler-dealer, sometimes having three conversations going on at once, buying hides on one end, building a house on another, and telling a third he can buy travel backpacks in my store. I have not been this enthused about an MMORPG in a long time, and I’ve played all of em.
In any case, you are all welcome to give me a tell if you need help getting started. I’ll make you a free weapon, as much bone armor as I can for free (especially if you can provide the hides), and just generally help with the interface and skills as much as I know them.

Also, Esme, I KNOW I KNOW YOU TOO You danced for me in one of our new houses. VERY entertaining, and only slightly erotic with some of the moves:) In addition, I know you’ve been to Oasis on a few occasions. Hell, I’ll have to get you a house, if you want it, extra cheap. With the steel gone on the planet though, it is tough to get the stuff to make many more. Perhaps you and Grary can become roommates with both of you listed as owners?

OK, I just joined the fun last night. Right now I’ve got Denvega Lonas, Rodian Entertainer on Eclipse. He’s the guy playing in the corner in the cantina in Theed on Naboo. (Drop by and /TIP sometime…;))
So far the game is great fun. We even had an Imperial/Rebel brawl in the cantina. Hysterical.
Is the SDMB contingent congregating on Scylla? I’ve been thinking of starting up a Mon Calamari Artisan and could hop over there.
I wanted to try out the different character types, so I started a character on Scylla as well. Solg Rundy, Rodian with aspirations of becoming the Galaxy’s greatest Iron Chef. If you’re in Theed, look for me!
Is there any way we can add “SDMB” to our character’s profiles? I took a look at it yesterday, and it appears that the only stuff you can put under “interests” are canned themes - “I like Fantasy/Adventure video games, and my blood type is A+”
Granted, I only played with it for .02 seconds. But it would be cool if we could find each other by doing a search.
Hey, I think I saw you last night. In the plaza in front of the Starport?
I’ve got a Bothan Scout on Scylla now, name of Tans T’Aafl. I’m running a few FedEx missions. Unfortunately I decided to do a long run on foot so now I’m standing on a beach somewhere way southeast of Theed trying to figure out if I want to try to swim across the ocean or not.
Interesting things going on out in the wilderness. Got to see a group of Imperials destroying several Rebel outposts and later found an abandonded scout camp. I also found what looked like a ruin of some kind but couldn’t figure out anything to do with it.
I really need to start doing some trapping to start working on my skills but I’m just exploring right now.
You use the Mineral survey tool. It’s kinda stupid, but there it is.
Man, I love the LIFE in this game. Like yesterday, I was running around delivering stuff, and there was a Rebel raid on the town (Bestine, IIRC), so I got to see Rebels and Imperials duking it out in the streets. Or a couple days ago, I was standing at the shuttle port when a passing spice fiend took a disliking to me. We promptly got in a shoot out, then several other people joined in…
Could we form a SDMB PA? I don’t know exactly what is required to set up a PA (beyond the fact that you have to build a building) but that may help us locate each other.
Damn you all! i had no interest whatsoever in this game until reading this thread, oh and before seeing this. Now im looking for a new computer that can run another addiction
Dragon Hunt’s over 6854 / 4333 at 10 PM tonight. And yes, check out Scylla’s forum on the Galaxies board. I’m voting for Mysterious Airship or Imperial Gophers.
Likely; I was running all over the place. I was doing a couple of cheap delivery missions.
Which reminds me, and I’ll put here in case anyone else finds it useful: I was having a hell of a time getting started with my first character, because the delivery missions were too tedious for what they paid, and the destroy missions were too hard and I kept getting killed. But I eventually realized/found out:
I picked a bad starter planet (“Talus”, I think; it’s the moon of Corellia). The only delivery missions that paid >100 credits were to off-world, meaning that the cost of the ticket was more than I’d make for the mission. When I finally saved up enough to fly down to Corellia though, I found missions that paid >300 credits but went to different cities on the same planet; I could afford to take a shuttle and make a nice profit.
If you unequip all of your weapons before selecting destroy missions, it’ll give you easier ones. It kept giving me difficulty 7 missions and I’d always get schooled, until I unequipped my pistol and it started offering me difficulty 5 missions. They seem to be a better return on investment than delivery missions.
Yeah, there was a Rebel and an Imperial chasing each other through Theed last night. Kind of neat to watch and take the “No blasters! I don’t want to get involved!” approach.
And I have to say that even though I wasn’t that interested in this game before it was released (“I don’t even like Star Wars anymore”), I was surprised how much of the fanboy doofus was still lurking within. I was in Anchorhead (to pick up some power converters), looking around, thinking “Yep, big deal. Star Wars computer game. Seen it.” And then I took a delivery mission out to another city that had me running through the desert. And halfway, just over a ridge, there was a Bantha herd just wandering around. And that, I thought, was pretty damn cool.
SolGrundy, I had the same reaction when I saw Banthas for the first time. I think I even posted to this thread! There were Banthas there! I saw 'em!
I’m such a Star Wars geek. It’s sick, really. I was 7 when the first one came out, and Star Wars is the reason that I have the career I have (programmer/tech writer). We played Star Wars in elementary school, and I always got to be Princess Leia because I bludgeoned the rest of the class into letting me be her.
I plan on now bludgeoning the rest of the SWG playing crowd into letting me be her. Or at least her little Zabrak cousin.
Anyway, y’all want to get together some night and play? I’d be up for picking a server and doing a couple missions on a Wednesday night or something. Whadaya think?
Fighting professions are underpowered right now. Marksman and Brawler types , by the skill tree, are supposed to be using weapons that nobody can make right now, so It’s a difficult road. It will be fixed within a week more or so at the rate people are powergaming though.
It unfortunately promotes power gaming among craftsman, because Harvesters have a high maintenence rate. if you want to miss a couple days, and don’t have shitloads of money, your harvesters go to hell, which means you have to play every day to earn money.
carbineers have a skill called action shot which immobilizes any enemy. I can easy take out any non ranged mob, including really high reds, as long as i can time it to heal my action to take enough shots, that will be changed soon I imagine. I just keep action shotting it from out of its range, and it is helpless.
The weekly resource changes are really annoying and really cool. it keeps you from finding the best sources, and just getting campy. You have to keep looking which keeps it from getting boring.
Medics and entertainers have a hard time right now. I will sit down to heal, and go do something else and come back, and somebody healed me. I know I should tip them for it, but they are long gone by the time I come back. and I feel guilty.
but mostly, I am having a blast right now. Novice Weapon-smith/novice Animal handler/novice Carabine specialist, hehe I can’t figure out what I want to do at any time cause I’m having fun doing it all…
The best bit was when I saw one, just lying on its side, basking in the sun like a dog. It was arching its neck, and then it twitched, and kicked its leg like it was dreaming about chasing… er… large busses. The motion in this game is amazing. Like nothing I’ve seen since Alone In The Dark.
