So, who's on your ignore list?

I’ve never used it. I suspect that fewer people do than what might be expected. This is not a board where people are allergic to disagreement or dissent – even vehement disagreement or dissent.

The original post by the person on the ignore list is blank, with a little note that “this message is hidden because the poster is on your ignore list.”

However, if another poster quotes that post in a subsequent post, it will show up.

I don’t find it hard to follow the conversation at all, even in a thread started by someone on my ignore list. It’s just that the noise:signal ration has gone down.

I’ve got two posters on my ignore list, but I don’t plan on identifying them.

Nobody.

There’s not a single regular poster who I have any stronger negative feeling for than “mild dislike”. I hated jtgain for a while- I don’t remember why- but he turned out to be a pretty good guy.

I don’t have an ignore list; I have a scroll wheel.

I have a few. The only one I will name is lekatt because it will be uncontroversial.

Yes, please explain.

Never saw the need for it.

I’m too nosey.

I have a few trolls that have subsequently been banned from way back when, as well as a current poster, who I won’t name (though I probably alluded to in his/her pitting).

I’ll tell you what - I should use it more often. The poster in question just posts stuff that manages to rankle my every nerve, and when I see that “click to see post” link, I just think about the unneccessary/irrational stress it would cause. I come to the Dope for a break in my daily routine - not to find things that piss me off.

Edit: The trolls were Clint in Wichita and justthink. I seriously can’t remember them - anyone have a memory of these guys?

At one point I had Excalibur on my list. I mean, I never before had understood why people couldn’t just skip over a post of a Doper they didn’t care for until I got to the point where the mere sight of his name sent me into a (figurative) tizzy. I eventually got over it and took him off it, though.

No one.

I only used the ignore list once – for some ephemeral poster who showed up and started posting to GQ a lot. The irritating thing was that I always clicked on them, expecting an interesting question, and then opened it up and wasted time trying to parse a completely incoherant and nonsensical question, before realizing it was another meaningless whassisface question.

Ignoring that person saved me the time spent trying to parse the questions, and then he went away.

I just skip over the regular twaddle when I see it.

The essentials (you can jazz it up any number of ways by having the recruit being hated by all the others, but that’s just one way) are that the DI has gotten word that McCool’s mom OD’ed on some Ex-Lax or some cleaning product and it falls to him to let the poor kid down as best he can.

So next drill he informs the squad/platoon/company/whatever, “Everybody whose mom didn’t just die, take one step forward. Not so fast, McCool.”

It may be that that’s how I reveal my ignore list occupants. Maybe not. After all, I have some fucking tact.

Nobody.

No one.

Wow, me too - same thing. Generally I don’t put people on my ignore list because you still see that they posted, but it just says “This message cannot be displayed because _________ is on your ignore list.” And then I just want to know what they said.

At this moment, no one is on my list. I can see everyone.

I have a a vague recollection of dear Clint.

And wasn’t Justthink the sucide machine guy? Poor guy - I call a lot of people crazy, but with him I don’t think it was figurative.

Nobody. One of the reasons I hang out here is to be exposed to opinions that differ from mine.

Ditto.

And what was the joke about the dead mother? Inquiring minds want to know.

Every single one of you is on my ignore list. Every. Single. One.

Except Winston Smith, and that is why I was able to see this thread. That has now been corrected.

Nobody now. I’ve had people on it before, but I’m kind of a masochist so I’d always look to see what they said anyway.

I groove on my righteous indignation when someone pisses me off.
